I believe God is possible, although I have no direct or material basis for the belief. I think my ancestors, Abraham, Issac and Jacob came into contact with advanced beings whom they took to be God. Maybe. Perhaps. Possibly. But not known for sure or even probably.

As for myself, I have no evidence to support the existence of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and I deny completely the literal truth of the creation myth given in the Bible. It was a good tale for Bronze Age dudes to tell while sitting around the campfire, but it surely is not factually true. The evidence against the literal interpretation of scripture is abundant and overwhelming.

It's hard to say I believe in something I can't really even define.

It depends what you mean by god.

I don't consider the concept meaningful to my life or intellectually relevant.

So, what is your take on this subject?

I believe in a Supreme Being, whom some may call "God", so that makes me a Theist. This is not a reasonable belief, as there is no way for me to prove or disprove the SB's existence. I don't know exactly where or exactly when this belief originated, I only know that I have been unable to change it. Your beliefs may vary.

What I don't believe is all the religious and superstitious nonsense surrounding Theism.

I don't believe in theist gods. I believe in the universe and the laws of nature, which means that I believe in something that Einstein called god. But I wouldn't call it god myself, because universe is more fitting imho.

Yes.

I could qualify that, but why bother.

Why God singular? Seems like that's begging the question a little.

Why bother? Because otherwise I'm going to assume that you're talking about Quetzalcoatl :P

Yes, that has always puzzled me too. Assuming for a moment that there is such a thing as an immensely powerful supernatural entity, why would there be only one single specimen? :? All species that we have ever come across consist of multiple individuals. I mean, where would the little gods come from? The angels and Jesuses and... oh, right :) I always forget that there is no such thing as a monotheistic belief. Except for Deism / Pantheism perhaps.

So does Kali :) And Ganesha. I have a little Ganesha statue on my desk btw, simply because I like elephants. Whenever I look at it, I hear Apu say to Homer "Please do not offer my god a peanut!" :D

Mighty and powerful Zeus works somewhere in the central Asian steppe these days, providing free electricity and wi-fi to nomads. This was in exchange for their vandalizing the massive golden statue of Turkmenbashi [that rotates to always face the sun] in such a way that it is actually now Zeus' caricature upon it
