No religious practice with make an Autie into a non-Autie. It is conceivable that some religious practices may enable an Autie particular one with Asperger's Syndrome to adapt to the NT world with less discomfort and clumsiness. Being in a religious community that takes love of others seriously may make life easier for one who is "different".

Of course very few religious communities are in such a blessed state. Must religious communities sanction some kind of bigotry against one who is outside the community. Christianity is a a religion that has done very poorly in its treatment of The Other. Islam is even worse. Judaism has fared somewhat better insofar that Jews are marginalized in every nation of the world except Israel. From TNKH -- "You know the heart of the stranger, for you were strangers in Egypt" Israelites were commanded not to bear a grudge against the Egyptians passed the third generation from the Exodus.

Religion has never done anything for my social anxiety... it was only by realizing that religion was really just social pretense that brought me peace in a crowd. Because it was from that very moment that I truly began to understand the world and had a chance to thrive in it. Sticking to religion never brought me that hope, only the hope of feeling better about being less of a person. Religion is unacceptable to me. It is a punishment for the innocent that is dished out from birth in some cases. It just continues to pile up on you and confuse you until you have meltdowns because so much has been taken from you.

Now that I am an Atheist and I am truly free I am able to become a better person and have real friends. The downside of it is that waking up at my age from ignorance is quite depressing, but things are getting better and I no longer am the way I used to be... I am not living a life on the receiving end of provocation. I only thought I was free because I believed in religion... I wasn't, now I am! Religion is mind pollution and doesn't make life better or easier. If you have afflictions and co-morbid conditions... alot of it might have to do with the fact that you don't understand religion and what religious life does to you. It is a very cunning thing to behold having every bit of cunning it tells you the devil has. Abandon your religion! It will do you no good. I recommend looking into things like people unlimited. If I was from AZ, that's where I'd be. It's just a business... not a religion. I like what they teach.

I think religion could be beneficial to those that think or were wrongly told by doctors and psychologists that they were on the spectrum. It may help them get out of their shell.

Only kept me in my shell... I had to know what religion was before I could make a decision on it... If religion teaches you how to come out of your shell, you will come out communicating what they want you to communicate and not even know it. It's a worthless freedom robbing institution.

Raised Christian, practicing Jew, and yes, my religion has helped me with a lot in life.

If you can feel a sense of belonging as opposed to alienation, I'd say it has worth.

Ditching religion completely worked wonders.
