My head is spinning after reading that.

I appreciate your political position, but I'm not sure if secular is the right term for it. A secular Jew is an atheist or agnostic who identifies with the non-religious elements of the Jewish culture and traditions. Similarly, a secular Christian should be an atheist / agnostic who acknowledges his Christian roots, perhaps thinks that Jesus was a great philosopher (but not the son of any god), and celebrates holidays like Christmas and Easter in a secular fashion.

Well, political I can see some separation, as that's just the nature of politics, not much room for "no compromise" in politics really, a lot of times, you do have to pick the lesser of two evils. However, what my point is, I don't think it's good to compartmentalize your faith like that. It's all intertwined to form, well, your life.

We are secular in regards to our faith which is a private matter it doesn't affect our way of thinking in regards to science social issues gay marriage ect it is a real thing though their are plenty of secular christians that go to my church and believe in god but they do not let their faith get in the way of their politcal thinking or on social issues I am not a atheist though I believe in god but I do not go around converting people to my faith.

I consider myself and other Christians like me to be Mainline Christians. I think Joker's definition of a "Secular Christian" is very synonymous.

In my imagining, a "secular Christian" is an atheist/agnostic who adheres to Christian morality for non-religious reasons.

I am a secualr christian because I keep my beliefs in my personal life to myself and know that america is a secular nation where their are diffrent beliefs systems how ever I am no athesit/agnostic but have a bunch of friends who are and we often talk about politics and science.

Yes- she a "mainline christian". As opposed to an "evangelical".

And apparently even evangelicals are divided over a concept called "dominion".

I was reading a thread on another site in which religious conservatives were debating amongst each other. l(the secular liberal) just kept quiet (eves dropping on the nieghbors having a family squabble so to speak).

One lady explained that the whole political machinery of society is "dominion". And that she didnt believe in using dominion to further her religion. And she had issues with "dominionist" polticians- despite her fervent faith and fervent conservatism and fevent need to spread the faith. She was against abortion, and whaterver else ( working on Sunday, and gambleing maybe)because of her religion but didnt believe in pressureing law makers to make laws against those things.

So aparently your non-evangelical, and non-dominionist.

An "evangelical" person talks about their religion and tries to get people to join it.
It's possible to be an evangelical Christian and still favor separation of Church and State.

Now only if your brand of Christianity would make it to the rest of the Bible Belt.

If it did their would be gay marriage stem cell reseach and other thing's that fundies hate and dislike for following the bibile in their way which is often hateful racist ect not to mention homophobic and hatred for the poor.

I do not think I would call myself a quake but I choose to use the term secular because I seperate my political and religious way of thinking that goes for science and religious thinking as well.
