I am not the one claiming Christianity is Biblical Judaism

From here, we would need to look at the Isaiah passage carefully. Who does it describe if not Jesus?

Just as likely to be describing Mithras, or another contemporary religious figure with many similarities to the Jesus story. Almost everyone has or wants an underdog prophet. Sometimes you'll take a shoe out of a pile and it will be your size

Well, my goal is not to convince, but to present evidence. All the Old Testament messianic prophecies taken together (there are over 300) form an air-tight argument for the historical Jesus of Nazareth being the O.T.-prophesied messiah, but demonstrating how those 300+ prophecies fit together is not something I am going to do in this thread. So, there will, in this thread, be ample room for logical disagreement with that conclusion. So again, what I'm intending to give in this thread is evidence, not proof. Although, that Jesus is the Jewish messiah can indeed be proven beyond all reasonable doubt. But Bible study is a lengthy and scholarly undertaking, as the study of any 5-million-character historical book would be.

A couple of those prophecies are that the messiah would be born in Bethlehem, and that he would arrive before the destruction of the second Temple (which was in 70 AD).

Looking at Jewish eschatology from the Wikipedia

Quote:
In the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible)

Most of the textual requirements concerning the messiah, what he will do, and what will be done during his reign are located within the Book of Isaiah, although requirements are mentioned in other prophets as well.
The Sanhedrin will be re-established (Isaiah 1:26)
Once he is King, leaders of other nations will look to him for guidance (Isaiah 2:4)
The whole world will worship the One God of Israel (Isaiah 2:17)
He will be descended from King David (Isaiah 11:1) via King Solomon (1 Chron. 22:8–10)
The Moshiach will be a man of this world, an observant Jew with "fear of God" (Isaiah 11:2)
Evil and tyranny will not be able to stand before his leadership (Isaiah 11:4)
Knowledge of God will fill the world (Isaiah 11:9)
He will include and attract people from all cultures and nations (Isaiah 11:10)
All Israelites will be returned to their homeland (Isaiah 11:12)
Death will be swallowed up forever (Isaiah 25:8)
There will be no more hunger or illness, and death will cease (Isaiah 25:8)
All of the dead will rise again (Isaiah 26:19)
The Jewish people will experience eternal joy and gladness (Isaiah 51:11)
He will be a messenger of peace (Isaiah 53:7)
Nations will recognize the wrongs they did Israel (Isaiah 52:13–53:5)
The peoples of the world will turn to the Jews for spiritual guidance (Zechariah 8:23)
The ruined cities of Israel will be restored (Ezekiel 16:55)
Weapons of war will be destroyed (Ezekiel 39:9)
The Temple will be rebuilt (Ezekiel 40) resuming many of the suspended mitzvot
He will then perfect the entire world to serve God together (Zephaniah 3:9)
He will take the barren land and make it abundant and fruitful (Isaiah 51:3, Amos 9:13–15, Ezekiel 36:29–30, Isaiah 11:6–9)

It looks like Jesus doesn't quite fit the bill. Jesus didn't accomplish the above. For one thing, he lived at a time when Herod's Temple was in its hay-day. He wasn't involved in any reconstruction efforts.

Also, destroying weapons of war would be un-American, and represent a violation of our cherished Second Amendment.

That really depends on context. Of course a Christian will believe Jesus was the messiah. Jews naturally had it down that there would be a messiah, but they do not believe Jesus was this man. They both however utilize the old testament. By this logic you might as well say that Islam is also the same

The "real" Christians do more than claim Jesus was the prophetized Messia. They claim he was God incarnate.

That is fracking blasphemy.

It's not blasphemy.

Quote:
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

Isaiah 7:14

"Immanuel" in Hebrew means "God with us".

Quote:
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the LORD Almighty
will accomplish this.

Isaiah 9:6-7

Quote:
“The days are coming,” declares the LORD,
“when I will raise up for David[a] a righteous Branch,
a King who will reign wisely
and do what is just and right in the land.
In his days Judah will be saved
and Israel will live in safety.
This is the name by which he will be called:
The LORD Our Righteous Savior.

Jer 23:5-6

His name will be "The LORD", which is the common biblical English translation for YHWH, God Himself.
In summary, the passage says that God Himself will raise up a "Righteous Savior" whose name will be the name of God Himself.

Quote:
"But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though you are small among the clans of Judah,
out of you will come for me
one who will be ruler over Israel,
whose origins are from of old,
from ancient times.

Micah 5:2

Yes it is. And besides there is no point in quoting scripture which is mostly a collection of Bronze Age campfire stories.

Well, whether or not the Old Testament is erroneous is not what this thread is addressing, but rather why Jewish believers in Jesus would, just like those in the first century, see Jesus' messiahship and divinity as being declared by the Jewish Scriptures.

So its all Paul's fault for preaching to the Gentiles.
Jesus was only addressing Jews.

Explain your assumption of a "fault".

Jesus was to witness only to Jews in Israel, and Paul was later called to preach to Gentiles outside of Israel.

Peter explains how God specifically directed that Gentiles could now be saved:

Quote:
The apostles and the believers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him and said, “You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.”
Starting from the beginning, Peter told them the whole story: “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was. I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles and birds. Then I heard a voice telling me, ‘Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.’

“I replied, ‘Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’

“The voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’ This happened three times, and then it was all pulled up to heaven again.

“Right then three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea stopped at the house where I was staying. The Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going with them. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man’s house. He told us how he had seen an angel appear in his house and say, ‘Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.’

“As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning. Then I remembered what the Lord had said: ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with[b] the Holy Spirit.’ So if God gave them the same gift he gave us who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could stand in God’s way?” When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.”

Acts 11:1-18

As Isaiah wrote, as quoted in the OP, most of Israel would reject their Messiah. Paul explains in Romans 11 why, after that rejection, the Gospel was to be given to the Gentiles: for the purpose that, in the end, BOTH Jews and Gentiles would receive the Messiah.

Your buddy Saul was a con man and a criminal and very likely a repressed homosexual.

I can understand Cousin Joshua promoting an early kind of Reform Judaism. Judaism needed reform. The Saducees sold out to Rome and the Pharisees were overzealous crackpots. But twisting the message and peddling it to the Goyim is unforgivable.

Say, chum. Why don't you call the religion you preach Paulianity. That would be much more accurate.

Well, c'mon, ruveyn, you're in some strange Judaism offshoot that claims a lot of the Old Testament is b.s., and that you guys have a certain special secret knowledge about God. My uncle was in something like that, and he took me to one of his group's meetings once. It was weird.

The Main Book of Judaism is not TNKH (what you Gentiles call the Old Testament). It is the Babylonian Talmud which is a man-made redaction derived from scripture. Judaism is man made almost from the bottom up.

Have you run your theory by your Jewish friends to see what they think?

Hell yes! We invented God. Abraham made it up from a combinations of desert hallucinations and wishful thinking.

1st commandment: I am the Lord thy G-d. Thou shalt have no other G-ds.

Pretty sure Jesus and the Holy Spirit fall under the "Other Gods" category. Ragtime, please show us a verse from the old testament that explicitly mentions the Holy Trinity. Also, it's not YHWH, it's YHVH(Yod-Heh-Vav-Heh)! Hebrew does not have the "w" consonant.

Of course. I'm Jewish myself, so is my dad and brother, and nephews and niece, so is one of my best friends, and several aquaintances I'm on good terms with. All of them accept Jesus (properly, "Yeshua") as the Messiah, the Son of God. I live right near the biggest Messianic Jewish congregation in Dallas, so, ya, I do know a few "Jews for Jesus". All of them seem excited and enriched by their receiving their own people's prophesied Messiah -- like a light has turned on in their understanding about life.
