"Ergo all homophobes are gay" sounds fallacious to me. How do you even define homophobe? Personally, I could be one one day and not another depending on my mood. In general, I don't mind gays. You're taking the position of a property being applied to a certain group of people and saying that applies to the whole group.
Come to think of it, not all of the bigotry against homosexuals can be explained as closeted gays trying to atone for their own homosexual feelings. A certain amount of the bigotry must be of a genuine nature.
If you look at other forms of bigotry, for example, Protestants who are anti-Catholic: probably few such Protestants are repressing hidden Papist tendencies. And, probably few Whites who self-identify as hating Blacks probably have much in the way of a hidden affinity for Black culture.
I'm sure that part of homophobia can be the result of individuals wishing to identify with a larger homophobic social class, and part of it from individuals seeking to assert that they are better than someone else. A few Bible passages render homosexuals a perfect target for this kind of crap.
With someone like Frothy, though, it is pretty obvious. Sending out robocalls that basically say "Mitt Romney is soft on homosexuals! Neener-neener-neener!" One could hardly be more obvious than that.
