Aw, poor p*****s.

The definitions of "cruel" and "unusual" have varied over the years.

Personally, I feel imprisonment is more humane. Yes, things go on in prisons which are horrible (and more strident efforts need to be made to prevent that kind of thing), but at the end of the day the psychological scars from an imprisonment - justified or otherwise - are easier to treat than the rather permanent damage inflicted by flogging, amputation or death.

Whipping they would probably enjoy, so I appose that, and amputation.

I do believe in execution, as long as they are without out a doubt responsible for the convicted crime.

The trouble is that human error is impossible to remove from the justice system. I mean, in the broader sense you can't 'take back' imprisonment either, but there's REALLY no taking back killing someone, and if they turn out to be innocent you can no longer release them and make amends for ruining their life, mostly because they are dead.

I suppose if you freeze the bodies of executed victims and are able to restore them... I am surprised that there are no conspiracy theories claiming that there are a bunch of executed killers in a freezer somewhere ready to be defrosted and unleashed upon an unsuspecting public.

Ooh, I have an idea for a screenplay, now....

Not precisely, no. But it did involve thawing out frozen criminals.

Then there is the frozen Nazi movie called "The Frozen Dead" from 1966 about senior Nazis having been frozen and attempts to revive them.

I oppose all. I think any country that practices any does not deserve to label itself civilized.

Based on another recent poll, it seems that a fair number of people favor beating children, but not adults.

I think that in Saudi Arabia, it is just the opposite: parents typically do not beat their children, but boy do adult criminals get violent punishments.

From what I understand, one result of this is that a Saudi shopkeeper can walk away and leave his shop unlocked and unattended, and nothing will be stolen. Very few people want their hands amputated with a sword.

violence is bad no matter what. it is never a good thing.
