Deciding to not vote when one is fully capable of doing so is not an act of defiance or disagreement.
It is an act of complete surrender. It is letting the system take complete advantage of oneself without putting up any fight whatsoever. It is like holding up a sign saying, "Violate me. Rape me. I don't care. I already surrendered."
You want to know why the two-party system of fanatical whiners have so much power now? It is because the citizenship of the United States has surrendered. Everybody has an opinion, but it is easier to complain instead of getting ones hands dirty and doing something about it. One could start with voting. Then one moves on to advocating for the causes one believes in. Volunteering takes precious time away from watching sitcoms and eating at McDonalds, but I personally find it to be more rewarding than any instant gratification activity that citizens of my country seem to be hooked on.
People have become too content with talk and with instant gratification. If more American citizens took action (which could mean voting, and moving on from there), the state of the political system would be a lot more hopeful, and I imagine the country probably would be a lot less divided because of it. Forget getting all your info from either CNN or Fox News - if one is not willing to get involved in any way, shape or form, one has no right to complain when things don't go his way.
