howard storm had some things to say about hell, which is ironic because before his experience he liked to make hell on earth for other people.

Didn't he figure out that what he thought was hell was in line with shamanic or druid initiation?

I've heard of NDE's going bad and quite often, as often as actual 'hell' experiences there will be mix-ups of denomination.

For instance there was one particular lady in the 1950's who had an NDE where she floated off the earth out into space and everything dimmed to black. She spoke of two disks flashing black and white and these disks argued with her that nothing existed, that she didn't exist, repeatedly reasserted that truth, and then they left her in the blackness. It took her decades to then find out that what she saw talking to her were what are commonly called yin-yangs.

(imagine the kind of fun Far Side could have with these.....)

some of the bible people would say that she went into outer darkness. i wonder where jungian archetypes would fit into her experience? i wonder what her education was, what her prejudices regarding spirituality were.

It seems like archetypes are all anyone sees when they have NDE's and that they're about as varied as there are people to experience them. I think that as similar to psychedelic experiences this falls in the realm of collective unconscious.

when my late father passed away, on his deathbed he maintained [at the moments of passing] the biggest grin [and staring at an invisible spot in space seeming past the hospital room wall] anybody had ever seen on him. it gradually faded away as the ghost left him. i wonder what he was seeing.

This seems like a stupid theory to me, I can think of way too many good things in life for that.

but there are legions of humanity who suffer in a hell on earth, just that most middle and upper-class folk don't pay 'em any mind. they might gingerly step over them on the way to the mall or something like that.

Yeah, and I'm pretty sure that most of those middle class/upper class folk aren't less deserving of punishment.

(EDIT: not that I'm saying anyone else deserves to suffer, it's the opposite. I'm saying the people who don't aren't necessarily any better.

Then where are all the dead aliens? lol

This reminds me of the 1991 Keanu Reeves movie "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey" where they die and go to Heaven, and there's dead aliens there along with dead humans.

If this world is Hell, what did we do before this to get here? What was that place like? Were we born here to earn our way out, and we all start off here, or do you believe we elected to come here before we were born? These are the questions I'd want to ask.

But I think this world isn't Hell, it's a planet in space.
