Not quite, I certainly don't go out of my way to be rude or offensive but I can't ensure no one ever gets offended by anything I say. I also sometimes consider the audience like I am not going to use a bunch of vulgar language around my grandma, but I don't really worry about it around younger people since vulgar language has kind of lost is offensiveness and people use it in positive conversation...some older people might see it as a sign of new genation disrespect or whatever but I'd say its a good thing to treat words as words rather than something taboo.

I don't think it should be offensive to say 'eww I got dog sh*t' on my shoes for instance, but obviously it can be used to offend like if you refer to someone as sh*t but the word itself isn't harmful.

The most politically incorrect thing to do these days is to express any kind of opposition to Israel or to report Israeli crimes. Also one cannot question the motives of the American military as it sprays areas with nuclear waste aerosol.

Would you express the same kind of opposition to, oh, Denmark existing? Or Singapore? Or Paraguay? Or is it just Israel, the only Jewish state in the world - a country the size of Wales and the only liberal democracy in the region?

Have you ever seen what's in an Israeli newspaper? It's full - from top to bottom - of criticism of the Israeli government on its policies on all kinds of subjects. I am perfectly happy to criticise the Israeli government. It should be criticised - that's a healthy part of any democracy. Israel has had some nasty blots on its record. It's not perfect - no country is perfect. However, it's miles better than its neighbours.

What you're talking about is demonisation and denial of the State's right to exist and supporting genocidal, openly racist Islamic fundamentalist terrorists, which is something different altogether.

Hell, I think that Saudi Arabia is a morally bankrupt, religiously fascist, murderous, intolerant, violent, racist, misogynistic, terrorist-funding, anti-Semitic, anti-gay backwater, and I don't call for it to be annihilated.

Can't say that I do but I don't intentionally try to offend people. I just express myself in ways that make sense to me.

To be honest, I feel that political correctness is at times itself rather racist.

You see! It's politically incorrect to criticise Israel, which is by the way a regime as the USSR was, as Rhodesia was. Denmark has not picked fights with the whole region after having been stitched together under the power of a distant imperialist country in violation of the deal under which it exercised that power.

May I also add that many people unfortunately worship Israel and that this is another reason it is not politically correct to criticise it as this is considered to be sacrilege, as we cannot tear the Rapture cult to pieces as the heresy that it is invented by Darby in the 19th century. As for Israeli newspapers, much of the stuff in them would be banned in the US as anti-semitic!

He said it is politically incorrect to express any kind of opposition to Israel (which would include the kind of mild criticism found in Ha'aretz editorials), not the most extreme opposition imaginable. I've never seen xenon advocate wiping Israel off the map, but I have seen him justly criticize Israeli's thuggish treatment of the Palestinians. It is possible to criticize the Israelis for violating the Oslo Peace Accords, for example, without calling for genocide. And why do you repeat the old neo-con trope that Israel is the only liberal democracy in the region? That is faint praise - voters have elected socialist and authoritarian governments in liberal democracies. It's not like Israel is automatically freer than neighboring countries because it is a liberal democracy. There are constitutional monarchies like Liechtenstein whose citizens enjoy a great deal more freedom than Israelis. In terms of economic freedom, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Jordan and Oman are ranked ahead of Israel on the Heritage Foundation's Economic Freedom Index. There is more investment freedom in those countries than Israel. And there are many West Asian countries beside Israel that allow universal suffrage. You make it sound like Israel is surrounded by a bunch of North Koreas. Hearing that is almost as tiresome as the moronic claim that the Israelis "made the desert bloom," as though the region was entirely barren before 1948.

There is also a significant difference between suggesting that there'd be regime change in Israel and that it could possibly be renamed, and demanding the deportation and or murders of all the Jewish population there. One can favour "removing Israel from the map" without demanding the moving of populations... Right now in Israel they say that this possibility is increasingly likely because of the colony building in the occupied territories which serves as an irreversible de-facto annexation of the territories... a Palestinian state becomes an impossibility. With full democratic rights extended to the Palestinians the ethnic balance becomes almost 50-50... a binational state would no longer be this Israel as we know it. It may keep that name, who knows... If Israel was to accept what one of their leaders once described as "Auschwitz borders" and remove all the colonies they could maintain a Jewish majority state for the indefinite future.

The thing is, it's common to hear people say, "Well, no one is questioning France's existence"... well France was not established overnight on a land that was only 5% French in 1920. Also Israel is the one that refuses to recognise its own borders! It considers itself an unsettled matter, a work in progress, that there is no finality as to what Israel is and what would be its form. Some say that this is one reason the US has sympathy for it because Israel has an "open frontier" as the US had through the 19th century...

Does the Israeli government want the Palestinians' land more than they want peace?

"Political correctness" means "perceived social rules that I don't agree with".

So by definition, nobody follows what they themselves consider to be political correctness.

If you gave an actual example of such a rule, then we could discuss whether or not we follow that particular rule.

Israel's characterisation of the 1948 borders as "Auschwitz borders" and its policies make it very clear that it wants all that land...

It's situation dependent. I don't like the idea of having to censor myself just for the sake of some rule. OTOH there are too many knuckle-draggers who use the "anti-PC nonconformist" card as convenient cover. They they think they have the absolute right to be an obnoxious numbskull, piss all over whoever they feel like, and then start crying like a baby about their "free speech being infringed" when they are told exactly what to do with their unasked for opinions.

Exactly. Most of the time, 'politically correct' means 'don't be a dick about something people couldn't change, even if they wanted to change intrinsic parts of themselves.

Well, what are the rules of political correctness? Don't the rules vary, depending upon the crowd with which you're running? For example, what Fox News would consider politically correct would be very different from what a normal news network would consider politically correct. And, the term often ends up being used in an accusatory manner from one party to another. Typically, someone like Rush Limbaugh will denigrate another point of view by labeling it as "politically correct", while he maintains his own strong opinions about what is, in his mind, "politically correct", but without calling it that.

Yes, to some degree; it seems like the term is usually used as a weapon by curmudgeonly old right-wingers, but they have their own hot-button issues.

My main beef with political correctness isn't just that it places restriction on political opinion, but that it often ventures into the realm of science, effectively chastising several fields of scientific enquiry simply because they just happen to be politically controversial - and thus giving the false impression that these fields are scientifically controversial as well.

Anthropogenic climate change, the heritability of IQ and the health risks of tobacco are prime examples of areas where robust results have been suppressed for political reasons.

The Abortion-Breast Cancer hypothesis is an example of the opposite case where the scientific community has rejected a hypothesis but political actors keep it alive and kicking.

Political correctness. Kill it with high octane nightmare napalm death fuel.

I don't know what term means, anymore. For some it seems to be like this:

"I hate n*****s. They're all lazy, crackheaded, fornicaing' welfare bums. Every last one. Everyone else here thinks the same thing as me, I'm just the only one with the guts [to be anti-PC] to say it out loud!"

...except that nobody else around is actually thinking that.

"...and furthermore, it is racialist and discriminatory towards ME for people to walk away when I use the n-word! That is why Political Correctness is wrong!"
