Then again the person wearing a niqab to hide their identity may not have been female or even muslim, but use of a niqab would send police down the road of searching for this non-existent female niqabi muslim.

It also helpfully excuses her from having to give a detailed description of her attacker, because we all know what the black Islamic shroud looks like and one black niqab generally looks fairly similar to another one, apart from the size of the slit for the eyes.

Sounds similar to story from a couple years ago out of Vancouver, Bethany Storro. Said she was attacked by a black woman with acid and it later turned out she was mentally ill.

And I imagine it was determined it was self inflicted due to the mental illness? having a mental illness alone does not rule out the possibility of being attacked. I hope there aren't too many individuals running around flinging acid at people, or on themselves as it's horrible just thinking about it.

There is a curious update to this today:

Quote:
Two arrested over acid attack that left Victoria's Secret shop worker scarred
  • Two people have been arrested in connection with an acid attack which left a young Victoria’s Secret shop assistant scarred for life, police said today.
Naomi Oni, 21, who worked for the lingerie chain in east London, said she had acid thrown in her face by a woman wearing a niqab as she walked home from a bus stop in the early hours of December 30 last year.

The acid burned her face, arm, hand a leg and left her temporarily blinded. She spent almost a month in hospital while doctors fought to save her sight and carried out skin grafts to repair the scarring to her face.

Today Scotland Yard disclosed that a 21 year old woman and a 28 year old man were arrested and bailed in connection with the attack.

It seems irresponsible and not beneficial for the media to be reporting that the police are investigating that Oni self-inflicted this. The police have to check out all possibilities. It's possible they had suspicions and decided to investigate this route, but also possible they could discover tomorrow they were wrong and some other evidence come up, so I don't see what is to be gained from printing this right now with nothing confirmed.

I know I said tomorrow, but I didn't expect it to happen literally so quickly. Especially after so long with no news of anyone being questioned, arrested, etc.

So now the two who have been arrested haven't had their names or any exact detail about what the police believe they did and why in the papers (as is right at this stage). But the media didn't hold back from publishing the victim's name and casting doubt upon her, when it was still at the point of being a suspicion with nothing proven. It just doesn't seem right to do that.

Ah I hate how easy it is to to get caught up in speculation, I'm a bit disappointed with myself tbh. I'm usually the one that argues to allow for the facts to come out. Especially lately with Oscar Pistorius and similar such cases.
