Sure there is; religious opposition requires no homophobia at all, merely adherence to dogma, and AFAIK is the most common reason for opposing gay marriage.

Are you quite sure you understand the meaning of the word 'fact'?

just out of curiosity--what does an opposition to gay marriage that's NOT homophobic sound like?

I guess you are either in favor of old men being allowed to marry and have sex with 8 year old brides like in some countries or else you are against 8 year old girls.

that is a completely rational and sensible argument, and doesn't at all sound homophobic.

Why is homophobia less homophobic when based on religion?

Why is a person who discriminates against LGBT individuals because he personally finds them aesthetically unappealing more homophobic than a person who discriminates against LGBT individuals because of he finds gay sex to be "an abomination" according to Leviticus 18:22*?

heres a better question, why do people give a s**t about being labeled a homophobe in the first place, why do people throw the word around as if it actually means anything.

I dont really have anything against gay people but I really couldn't give a crap less about gay marriage or any of that s**t either. There is way way more important stuff going on in the world right now. The fact that everyone acts like i am required to get behind that cause is what really turns me off to it.

Im seeing way more cases of kids being beat up by teachers in school who have a mental illness or are handicapped and yet i am supposed to believe that gay rights are some how more important and deserve more social attention. No sorry its mostly a superficial cosmetic issue at this point.

This whole liberal vs, conservative is getting pretty boring. It just tells me that people have a very limited political intelligence, and are still think manifesto politics works.

The irony I see is liberal to today has nothing to do with historic liberalism, and much of what is called conservatism today has more to do with classical liberalism then conservatism. Especially small government. Small government was never really a mainstay of historic conservatism.

I have a theory that the cold war had an unfortunate side effect of stupefying American politics, unfortunately this is rubbing of on the rest of the world.

Interesting theory. Did you know that apparently the Russians had a whole lotta spies in the U.S. whos job was to surreptitiously do just that.

So that's why you compared two consenting, willing adults wanting to marry to that of forced/child marriage? Are you opposed to same-sex marriage? If so, why? If not, why?

Kids - and adults - get bullied, beaten up and murdered for being gay. Unfortunately, there's plenty enough hatred to go around. The good news is, you're not limited to being opposed to only two or three forms of violent prejudice.

Liberalism encourages arrogance: ''Liberals tend to believe they're brilliant, compassionate, moral, enlightened, perceptive, and courageous, not because of anything they've actually done, but just because they're liberal. When you completely divorce a person's self image from his behavior, it produces terrible results -- like liberals who hurl abuse at conservative women while believing that they're feminists or selfish left-wingers who've never given a dime to charity, but believe themselves to be much more compassionate than people who tithe 10% of their income.''

YES,QFT...

As conservatives tend to side with homophobia, and call the destitute lazy, and while not all conservatives are by any means racist, I think it's safe to say that racists are more likely to find a home in the conservative wing, it's sometimes hard not to feel a certain contempt for the right. If that's arrogance, then so be it.
And why do you think only conservatives give a percentage of their income? As I assume you're talking about religious donations, I think it's more than fair to point out that plenty of liberals are just as religious as conservatives. And as a side note, in my religious tradition, having to tithe a 10th of one's income is regarded as legalism. I was brought up with Paul's call to give as the Spirit moves you.

Propaganda was used on all sides. However much of the stupification was driven by paranoia on the same side. IMO this was more to do with it.

There is no doubt that the political language, and the main fears, and how people identified themselves shifted, due to cold war, and this legacy remains. There is a huge chunk of the centre ground which has no name, an people dare not speak its name, due to stigma.

Communism was a pariah, but it far from the only one. The US, often sided with some pretty nasty people (Savimbi in Angola a good example), becuase they though they were better for not being the communist. Ironically he was trained by the Chinese and once was Maoist, but he was completely out for himself anyway.

As my father pointed out even in 1915 the US was preoccupied with Marxism in Russia, over other things despite having very little to do with the US at the time.

In WWII we were actually feeding Saltin information, we sent him arms, and raw materials to build tanks. This was the pragmatic approach necessary to end the war.

I find people annoying if they adhere to dogma, either conservative or liberal. Sometimes it's too easy to go with groupthink, rather than think for yourself.

Good point, it's impossible to care about more than one thing at any given time.

1) They're unhappy: They do seem to be generally angry and take themselves too seriously.

2) Liberals don't care as much about tradition: They tend to consider traditional holidays like the 4th of July to be jingoistic and Christmas too Christian. If you mention tradition to them they go to extremes and assume you MUST obviously want to go back and live in the 19th century. To them, tradition is also a dog whistle for homophobia.

3) Liberals see people who disagree as evil: And how! You’re either with them or against then and to b against them is to be evil.
• If you’re critical of environmental fanaticism you want to destroy the environment and are probably in bed with oil companies
• If you didn’t vote for Obama or are critical of his administration it’s only because you’re a racist
• If you’re against ACA you’re want people to die in the streets
• If you’re at all critical of public assistance or question some people’s apparent abuse of it you want people to die in the streets
• If you support state’s rights on ANYTHING it’s only because you want to bring back segregation

4) Liberals aren't very religious: They claim to be against all religion but hammer on Christianity the most. The ones that claim to be Christian often go to a certain church known to be charitable only to supplement their public assistance income. Seen it happen IRL enough.

5) Liberalism encourages arrogance: On this one I can’t honestly say that liberals lead the way. They are an arrogant lot but so are conservatives. I’ve been an arrogant prick on occasion and enjoyed it immensely..
