Trump and fascism
I like Sanders and all--but he's pretty unelectable under the American political climate these days.
Sanders would do better in countries which have a Social-Democratic orientation.
Or perhaps even in Canada.
Here....no way.
I would say Bernie is more electable than you think. There are polls that show he would beat the Republicans by a larger margin than Hillary would. His policies are far more mainstream than the way they're usually portrayed.
That said I think Hillary will get the nomination and eventually win the presidency. That's just my guess.
Another reason I think that Hillary would be wise to pick Sanders, is the influence of the idealistic liberal college kids (the future of our nation and world), who I know well... many of whom are so cynical that they will be reluctant to vote for Hillary if Bernie doesn't get the nomination and might even abstain completely, or vote independent.

So in the same way, you only find human beings on a planet of this kind, with an atmosphere of this kind, with a temperature of this kind- supplied by a convenient neighboring star. And so, as the flower is a flowering of the field, I feel myself as a personing- a manning- a peopling of the whole universe. –In other words, I, like everything else in the universe, seem to be a center… a sort of vortex, at which the whole energy of the universe realizes itself- comes alive… an aperture through which the whole universe is conscious of itself. I think the age factor would be too much of a problem. I think a better option is to take after Obama and put him in her cabinet.
I really do like that option as well... but i just cant think of who else is an option!? Ive heard Biden floated around.. but that seems incredible. And the proposal that it could be Bill from earlier in this thread is far out, I had not heard that one, but I do like it!!

Look up Julian Castro. He spoke at the Democratic Convention in 2012. He spoke in the same timeslot as Obama did before he ran. There were a lot of comparisons between the two at the time.
He would be good because he's young, Hispanic, liberal and a Texan. That should be very good for turnout.
This country has been fascist for over a 100 years, all the progressives LOVED Mussolini back in the 20s and 30s. Woodrow Wilson and FDR were essentially fascist leaders, both having connections with the KKK(I think most people know Wilson's relationship but FDR named an open member of the KKK to the supreme court who would go on to serve for the next 35 or so years. To call Trump a fascist is to pretend we exist in a vacuum, what do you call Marco Rubio or Hillary Clinton or Ted Cruz? You could apply this to anyone, Barak Obama in 2008 or Dubya in 2004. It's nonsense, all the argument is about tone and rhetoric but not actions. Fascism in America doesn't have a toothbrush mustache or goose stepping, it has smiling face because that is how the manipulate people to vote for them. It's funny we have all these people calling Trump a fascist and a dictator but they're all(the GOP establishment and the media at least) are standing against democracy because it does not fit 1% of this country's bottom line. They NEED unlimited cheap 3rd world labor or else they will actually start having to pay Americans a fair wage and with all the protections we are entitled to! Big business is an integral part of fascism, Mussolini said himself that corporatism is fascism which is the merger of the interests of the state and that of big business which our government is a perfect description of.
Trump is running a modern campaign, one that is winning and that is by design not by chance. If Trump ran with the temperament of Ben Carson he wouldn't of made as far as he has and Jeb Bush would very likely be the GOP nominee for president. I think it should be brought up the Prescott Bush, Dubya's grandfather, was involved in the fascist plot to over throw FDR which was exposed one of the great forgotten men in American history Major General Smedley Butler. Rhetoric is rhetoric, red meat is red meat, in the end words mean nothing and I all I care about is actions which extremely problematic when you look at other candidates running. Anybody can say they for love and kindness but if you look at Hillary's life, there hasn't been any love or kindness in anything that she does. What does that even mean? Hillary has changed everything she ever believed in, she can't even run on her husband's accomplishments since the Democrat repudiate it now and she has no real ones of her. People say Trump has no substance but what do any politicians have, when was the last candidate to take questions from the press live after they won an election? Hillary and Obama don't hardly ever go up in front of reporters without being control the narrative and what is being asked. They go months and months and months without even talking the press, the Obama administration is by far the least transparent in American history and Hillary I think was a big architect of that but also how Clinton administration conducted itself as well.
The corporate/government establishment control the flow of information so they can manufacture what is accepted to be true and what is false. We know the media lies, we know that that they're biased, so who are they serving? Look at home who owns these media companies, look at they invest in and it will start making sense. The only way you break thru this entrenched establishment is to be a demagogue because you have to play to people's emotions and moralize the argument because you can't have a real discussion when your opponent gets to decide what is true and what is not. Think about all the lies politicians have told us over the years, you can't even it and maybe Trump turns out to be more of the same but it's worth the gamble because there is no alternative. I am confident in our institutions and the American people enough to not worry about Trump turning this country into a dictatorship, he'd be held to more scrutiny than any president in history. We're not even allowed to talk about Obama without someone screaming racism, Hillary wishes she could do the same with sexism but her and her husband's record with are so bad that is mind boggling that she's even try this narrative. Victims of sexual assault must be heard, believed, and supported except if that accusation is made against my husband then of course they dirty trailer trash sluts just out for a buck part of this fast right wing conspiracy. Perhaps people are too young and have forgotten the Clinton years but I haven't and have never wavered on this issue, they bad people who owned by the special interests because they have to be because of all the crimes they are guilty. They are held by the balls by the oligarchy which really controls this country, the Clinton's will enthusiastically go along with it because it completely serves their interests which only money and power. How did the Clinton's become so so rich? Speeches, really? This is serious corruption going on here and nobody seems to notice or care. Maybe they will if the FBI shows some independence and actually indicts the obviously guilty Hillary, I can't believe Democratic voters are so stupid to nominate a person like this but as I mentioned a while back the Democrats are ultimately not a party of grassroots activism but rather like politics of old with the big party bosses who control everything. This evident since the whole Democratic primary has rigged from the beginning, Sanders was never even suppose to seriously challenge Hillary and is controlled opposition because if he really wanted to win he would attack Hillary's complete lack of ethics because his honesty and authenticity are his greatest strengths. Imagine Joe Biden or Elizabeth Warren or any of credible candidate, they would of crushed Hillary but she was PROMISED the nomination in 2008 for moving out of the way for Barack Obama. In 2008 it is interesting that Hillary sounded a lot different because the she lost minority vote so she made played the white working class vote. The original birther was Hillary Clinton, she spoke all these quasi-racist code talk that people accuse Trump of doing. Anybody remember this quote from Hillary in 2008? She pushed the Rev Wright videos, she alluded to some video of Michelle Obama saying something racist about people, her campaign was the one who pushed the Obama video where he says something along the lines that bitter scared people cling to their religion and guns.
Clinton cited an Associated Press poll "that found how Senator Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me."
Wow, who does that sound like?
Hillary is the biggest fraud on the planet.
But we have to also consider the rest of the country and their more conservative viewpoints.
But when have the Republican considered the more Liberal side of the country?
In any case I think the idea that most people are centrists is a myth. I think most people actually lean more heavily to the left or right then the center.
Hillary has been conservative to socialist and everything in between, she has no real principles which is what people accuse Trump of so why is okay for her? I don't understand. The Clinton's in the 90s declared they were going to 'end welfare as know it', they made a much much tougher criminal code that put hundreds of thousands maybe millions of black men in particular in prison, Ross Perot completely right the 'sucking sound' of jobs that have flowed out of country because of NAFTA and the black in particular has felt this more than anyone. I grew up in a black city, I went to black schools, I've quite literally been the only white person in my grade, Hillary says that America has never stopped being great but growing in a post-apocalyptic rustbelt hellscape I know first that is BS and first hand how awful her policies have been to the people she claims to support so much.

Most people are completely non-ideological but what you are saying about the Republicans is pretty interesting since the GOP establishment has been forcing loser moderate candidates down our throat these last couple elections in Mitt Romney and John McCain who come from the liberal side of the party. The base has voted for representatives to do certain things which they have completely disregarded the second they were elected, congressman Thomas Massie made interesting comparison to Charlie and Lucy with the football so not **** people are angry at their leaders.
Hillary is pretty much your standard politician. Almost all politicians are more radical in the primaries than run to the center when in the general. Also Hillary Clinton is not Bill Clinton. You can't blame Hillary for what Bill did. That and it was twenty years ago. The political climate was totally different now. I'm starting to ramble a bit.
But in any case there are legitimate criticisms of Hillary but most of the one you make aren't.
Kraftie,
I personally believe most people are apolitical because they don't pay much attention to politics. Life is hectic and it tends to get in the way of being politically active. But I think that when you ask people questions issue by issue, people tend to be pretty consistently liberal or conservative. That's just my opinion.
But one thing your post makes clear, we need to stay politically active after the elections too.

You can criticize Hillary for aiding and abetting Bill's predatory behavior 100%, she was the one that went to the women afterward to "thank" them for their service to her husband and to essentially tell them to shut their face. She's a completely hypocrite with her statement on sexual assault, I still can't believe she said it not knowing how that would blow up in her face. It's all fair game.
I'm against Hillary across the board, she is a completely unacceptable candidate and the only reason anybody supports her is just pure partisanship and those manipulated by fear brought on by the media. I've never met a genuine Hillary supporter, every person I've ever met that said they'd vote for her starts by saying "I don't like Hillary but..." so I hope you Democratic voters start getting off your ass and find another candidate(I care more about keeping the Clinton's out of the White House than putting Trump in it) because the campaign against her will easy and unrelenting this fall. Hillary should be in the big house not the White House, we all know this. It's already too late, the game is rigged and the sooner you recognize that the better.

Well than let me be the first. I do like Hillary and I think she would be a phenomenal president. I couldn't be happier with the democratic primary this year. We have an embarrassment of riches on our side next to the likes of Trump and Cruz.
The main criticism I have of Hillary is that I don't like the way she campaigns and I think she could surround herself with better advisors. Still I will enthusiastically pull the lever for Hillary in November.
I think you're correct in saying that people are primarily apolitical.
I do believe people go to "one side or another" when pressed about a "hot button issue."
The American political spectrum, though, is not the Canadian, nor the European spectrum. It's more to the right, overall, for sure. People tend to be reactionary here, rather than proactive.
And forget about saying ANYTHING about raising taxes. That would be fatal. The person running would be kaput.

I definitely agree with the reactive part. It seems like Facebook is determining what issue we focus on and unfortunately it just seems to be one giant outrage after the other. And we jump so fast from issue to issue that nothing ever gets settled. It's really sad.
