MYSTERY OF DEAD CIVILIZATION SOLVED

PELDRIX III - (Ptanum Gliptik, GP Staff Writer) Archeologists have sifted through the ashes of a lost global civilization on Peldrix III and determined that the use of nuclear weapons brought about their demise.

"We have definitive proof", said Dr. Teldemar Fix. "Although the prevailing theory of natural disaster had held sway for several cycles, we were able to determine, through isotopic analysis, that the inhabitants of this world used plutonium-based thermonuclear devices in one final act of mass suicide."

"We don't know why this happened", he continued. "The event induced an Ice Age that lasted some 23,000 cycles, and the glaciation ground down most of their higher technologies during that time." Heshe went on to explain that although the Peldrixians left no recorded data regarding their culture, "It is obvious that they understood enough quantum physics to develop the means of self-annihilation".

"What puzzles us is the proliferation of these little disc-like medallions", heshe went on. "Each shows an image on one side of what we think are religious figures - possibly gods of their mythoi - although their base-metal composition indicates something of lesser importance." (Example below)

Whatever they were, it is sad to think that this civilization, possessing knowledge of science and considering the concepts of higher beings, brought itself to the brink of joining the galactic community, and instead wiped itself from existence in one night of nuclear terror.
