Essentially correct. However, local bookies went from nearly even odds to about 5 to 3 favoring Ms. Clinton (down from 3 to 1). Of course, the odds seem to change every day; but they depend on which way the money goes, and not on any questions other than "Who ya bettin' on?" and "How much ya bettin'?" I'll trust an honest bookie over a dishonest pollster any day!

Looking over all of the odds for the time, Mr. Trump ranked behind the rest of the pack. This is why betting on a presidential candidate at the beginning of the race is as foolish as betting on the long shot before the horse has even left its own pasture.

Once we're about a week or two before the actual election, I'll place my bets. Even if the next president causes another Depression, I'll still have made money off of his or her victory.
