Excellent article! And we can see examples of white attitudes and reactions to the subject right here on this forum. They want racism to be binary, either you are a mean racist, or a nice non-racist. It's a way to deflect attention away from the uncomfortable fact that we live in and proliferate a racist society. I like the conclusion, that it's up to white people to educate themselves, no one is going to hand you the tools to figure out where you fit in this picture. And most white people won't do it.

You shouldn't take anything the Huffington Post has to say remotely seriously.

I imagine their idea of "racism" is something along similar lines to their idea that this was somehow a good thing.

Case in point, attack the messenger.

You're damn right! When the messenger talks nothing but BS, and agenda-driven BS at that, you'd be a fool to take anything that messenger had to say seriously.

This sentence is an example of racism.

This sentence is an example of racism.

Another example of a defensive reaction, meant to deflect criticism that might have to be taken too personally. It's white people's attitudes that are in question here, as they are the dominant race. Also, my statement was totally neutral on whether white people are inherently superior or inferior, thus it's not racism.

Racism isn't BS. What's wrong with an anti-racist agenda? I have yet to read any legitimate criticism of this article.

The article specifies North American white attitudes. Regardless of how idiotic the article it is, to extrapolate from it and then apply its reasoning and terminology to a white British person would also be racist.

You're holding white people to a different standard, hence what you said is racist, as is the above quote.

I typed "Huffington Post is " into Google, and it gave me 5 suggestions: BS, trash, garbage, not news and a tabloid.

I'd say it applies to racism everywhere.

No, it's the same standard of education and awareness. What do you think racism is precisely?

Attack the messenger again. I bet you didn't even read it. Yes, Huffington Post is a lot of clickbait, but specific articles are independent of it's worth as a website. Victor Stenger used to post there, a prominent physicist.

If that is the case, than it applies to everyone not just white people...but I don't really think everyone is 'just a little bit racist.'

Yes, it does apply to everyone. When the entire culture is racist on some level, you can't escape it.

So a white person stating they are not a racist and thus should not themselves be held responsible for other peoples racism, is deflecting we live in a society where racism still exists on various levels? Can't one not believe themselves to be racist at all and still acknowledge it is a problem? Also its not just a problem in white majority societies.

As?

You wouldn't have denied making racist statements if you didn't agree with my definition. Try again.

Unless you apply the strict definition of racism, I completely agree.

Still doesn't mean every individual person is racist.
