...On a science-fiction board I have speculated on thiis , /from a : redblus
e : standpoint , thinkingg of SF stories, possible versions .
I think:
(1) As things stand now , in a split into 2 , the : red : side might have a harder time maintaining internal agreement amongst themselves . (To simplify??:) social conservatives vs. libertarian conservatives vs. hawkish/business conservates , say ? Think of how they,d differ on gambling , say ,
.
2 Plus , within each side , mode moderate voices might conflict with the purists - in trying to get larger portions of the old USA to their side !

As for rural people getting more benefits, there are no good paying jobs in most rural areas.

You're one of the reasons I can't say ALL rural folk lol. I can see why someone would rather not live in a city, it can be expensive and stressful. Urban vs Rural isn't the only dichotomy I see, another is white vs blue collar. There is a lot of libertarian sentiment in my specific work group while the company as a whole is more left-leaning.

I read about an Independent California movement a few days ago. Depending on which site I visit, they advocate anywhere from less federal taxes to outright sovreignty (Calexit). Its pretty ironic to hear talks of secession coming from them of all places. They argue that they have the means to sustain themselves completely without others states involvement. There is a lot of agriculture in CA, although I don't know if it's enough to sustain the population.

The fast paced lifestyle plus all the noise is stressful.Big cities have an advantage when it comes to museums, music and a variety of tasty food to sample. For me it's a place to visit, but not to live.Botanical gardens are a great place to visit in any large city.I enjoyed those immensely.Hopefully if it all works out,I will be visiting the Ladybird Johnson wildflower center this spring when the blue bonnets bloom.I'm looking forward to seeing Austin and the hill country.

Seems like Cali does have the resorces, maybe the water would be an issue. At one time it seemed like Cali wanted to split into,SoCal and Northern Cali.I saw the Central Valley a few years back, the crops didn't look that impressive but I think the drought was going on.

Bingo!

Water would be the issue. Not agriculture per se.

Japan doesnt grow enough food to feed itself. But that doesnt stop Japan from being an independent sovereign country. Japan focuses on industry, and it buys food from abroad with industrial exports. Likewise California buys both industrial, and agricultural products from the rest of the states with its industrial and agricultural products. And if Cali broke away the same interstate trade would continue -it would just become (by definition) international instead of interstate.

The problem is fresh water. California has to go to ever greater distances to get water to supply both its cities, and its huge agriculture sector. The later especially depends on irrigation. They are starting to have to pipe in and canal in water from beyond the state. And if the state line became an international boundary line THAT would be a problem.

Someone posted a video here on PPR a while back of an odd little film of the every day life of ISIS fighters in Syria. One of the things that the ISIS fighters were angry about was that Turkey is upstream on the Euphrates from Rakkaa and that "the apostate regime of Turkey takes too much water from the Euphrates". I suspect that water use by Turkey is the REAL issue, and not them being "apostate".Never before realized how much ISIS had in common with the Orange County Chamber of Commerce! That moment in the film explained a lot about the current and ancient history of the Middle East. Much of the bloodshed over religion is probably really about water rights.

So in an arid region (either the American Southwest, or the Middle East) you dont mess with water rights unless you are willing to wage a holy war!

Whoever delivers the breakthrough for desalination technology is getting a Nobel Peace Prize. I know Lockheed Martin had a graphene based design, but it never took off (probably because it was graphene based). Saudi Arabia is scheduled to have a 60,000 m^3 /day solar powered desalination plant this year, but there's no recent news of it.

I'm surprised that someone hasn't developed a process for directly using the sun's heat for desalination, I guess the brine is too much of an issue.

Mystery Babylon. There do seem to be correspondences between the USA and Babylon the Whore as mentioned in Revelation. I hope it's not true, because things don't end well for her.

They could always just tow one of those Delaware sized ice bergs that keep calving off of the Ross Ice Shelf in Antarctica up to the Persian gulf. Even if it shrinks to the size of Rhode Island in transit that would still be a huge amount of fresh water.

The outside world considers us to be, not only decadent, but the fountainhead of all which is decadent, on Earth.

They send missionaries to us.

Who sends missionaries to us? I've never heard of them before.

I can't speak for conservatives, but most people I meet who identify as rural or country are very elitist about it. I'm always hearing how country people do everything better than city people; who are too soft and senseless.

Eh, it's different sense for different places. "City sense" works in the city; it will f**k you in the country every time. "Country sense" makes a good life in a rural area. In the city (trust me) it will get you killed. "Country sense" seems to be the only kind my brain wraps itself around. I try to stay out of the city as much as possible. I live 20 miles from Pittsburgh. I don't go there unless I have to.

I think the elitism is like a backlash thing (which, yeah, probably makes it stupid). More factionalism. "Dumb hick" vs. "stupid city slicker." WTF ever. Maybe we could appreciate each other as people?? Probably as likely as me and a feminist sitting down for coffee without the feminist wanting to "save" me and me wanting to choke the feminist.

Honestly, I don't think it's going to split. I think it's going to shatter along racial, cultural, and economic lines. It's going to end up being everyone against everyone else. I just want to opt out of the whole stupid mess, but-- hey, I'm enough of a monkey that, if someone brings the fight to my door and drags my kids into it, it's gonna be fangs and claws.

Occasionally, China, and even outer Mongolia.

In the story of Abraham and Sarah, a presumably-pagan Pharaoh knows that adultery unsettles nature itself. It's in our cheesiest soap operas, free to watch, and used to market our consumer products.

In the book of Daniel, when intelligent Jews are taken captive, to be indoctrinated, they are given high social promotions. We do the opposite.

Many exotic govts cannot be idealized, but are still utilitarian. They haven't passed that Romans 1 limit, into self-sabotage.

What religion do the Chinese and Mongolian missionaries proselytize?
