Should 16 Olds Have The Right To Vote?

Sure!

Let's give them the right to enter into a legally-binding contract so that they can sign a mortgage agreement before they've even graduated high school!

Let's also give them the right to be drafted into the military on their 16th birthday so that the can finish their high-school education on the front lines!

Won't that be wonderful?

Great idea!
Give them the vote at age 16, but conscript them into the army also!
You are a god damn genius!

While we are at it, let us also give them the right to smoke and drink too... :P

Fine by me if 16 year olds gain the right to vote. Even 10 year olds would be alright -- primates, even. It won't make any difference in the overall scheme of things, since voting is pretty much a farce. We are presented with two corporately owned candidates who are equally committed to serving the oligarchs. Let's make voting a family outing. We can supply the toddlers with step stools at the voting booths. As long as they can fill in the little ovals...well, God bless them! Let all the kiddies participate in what has basically become a meaningless activity.

Well one Corp owned party wants to strip us of our rights while the other wants it but fights to protect them to garner votes. I know which I support. I’d rather support dying 20 years from no over dying this year.
The longer term option gives you a chance to prevent it, while the other your dead.
Democrats would strip our rights today republicans might years from now. It’s easy pick. In two years those kids migh grow enough thet bunch of them won’t vote democrat. I did.

Agreed...

BTW, has any conservative group advocated the lowering of the voting age?
Please correct me if I am wrong (anyone) but isn't this concept a left-wing agenda?

Soon democrats will have us voting with a TV remote control from the comfort of our E-Z chair, during commercial breaks on "American Idol," I mean it's such a hassle traveling to the polls, not to mention the CO2 expended in doing so.
Because all that people need to remain contented sheep is to be given the illusion of participation in the democratic process. I think Joe Stalin said something to that effect.

My point is this: If 16-year old children want the right to vote, then they should be given all of the other rights that adults share, like military conscription, 30-year mortgage contracts, being tried like an adult and being jailed in adult jails. They would also be allowed the 'right' to be arrested for dating a 15-year old, to no longer be declared a dependent of their parents, to have to pay their own rent and utilities, to have to have their own insurance (car, health, home, et cetera), and to pay for their own education.

Could you expand on that comment? I honestly don't know what you're talking about.

Honestly, I don't know. I've not heard that much about lowering the voting age.

I am not inclined to make the "age of majority" 21.

Do you support them raising the age to buy guns to 21? It’s the same people who want t lower voting to 16, also the same people who raised the age to buy smokes to 21, alcohol to 21. So basically they just wants votes, as they used “they aren’t adult enough at 18” as justification for all the other things but now say they are adult enough at 16 and should be able to vote. Next it’ll be 10 then 5. Why shpuodt 5 years olds be able to vote what politicians do effects them too. Maybe you should have voting rights the min you can speak.

The minute they can speak? That is so discriminating towards the children who haven't learned to speak yet! :P

No, 16-year-olds shouldn't have the right to vote.
I'm not even sure they should at 18. Maybe raising the age of majority to 21 would be a good thing. The brain matures around the age of 25 or so....

It makes no sense to me that 18-year-olds can vote, participate in war, and marry, but aren't allowed to drink hard liquor. The age of majority should come with all the rights and obligations of adulthood, not just the ones they are deemed able to handle, because then they shouldn't be considered adult at that age.

I'd agree with the rights and responsibilities arguments, but I'd turn it around this way - until you actually have skin in the game and know what it's like to try holding a job, owning a house, trying to defend the nation, you won't have much of an informed opinion. Even if you want to have an informed opinion and are willing to read the newspaper all day or stay on top of political issues, there's what's talked about and then there's the much more uncompromising 'state of nature' side of it that you'll just never get from reading, watching TV, etc., or if you do you'll still have a very Disney-fied experience and placement of it.

The more coddled our culture is the more difficult it is for one person to tell up from down as far as what the world is like for other people. That's dangerous and we have to think about subtle ways to factor that in.

One Republican voted in favor, that's it. I saw him on the Tucker Carlson show, he had very lousy arguments for it. He claimed that he wants to get more kids involved into politics. That much I can agree with, I can't agree with giving them the right to vote when they hardly know anything though. Even alot of adults don't know enough, me being one of them, most will not admit it though. Like many others have said, if anything the age should be raised, I wouldn't oppose waiting till they are 25, give them the chance to learn and mature their political beliefs before allowing them to vote. I could say the same for allowing them to go off into war. People may disagree with me, but I think it's a bit harsh to allow an 18 year old to go off in a war and get killed. I'm down with holding those kinda thongs off until there brain has fully matured.

They are also trying to abolish the electoral voting system, simply because hillary would had won if it were popular vote. That is completely stupid because the majority of the state's would be abandoned and not have a say in who the president is.

The more mature the voters are the better, to a degree anyway.

And don't forget the fetuses...

But let us not stop there:
Should we also give the vote to spermatozoa and the ovum?
Granted, they should only have half a vote each to be fair...

But regressing even further still:
Should the gleam in the mother's and father's eye also be worthy of a vote?

And should the soul in waiting before conception also have a vote?

"Curiouser and curiouser..."... 8)

If men get to vote on behalf of their sperm they will have trillions more votes than women. Democratic party wanting to lower voting age is clearly a long term plan to disenfranchise women.
