What about The Russian Revolution, The Third Reich, The Cuban Revolution or the american invasion of Iraq?

Lenin killed much more people in his five-year reign of terror than the czar did between 1900 and 1917. He also invaded smaller and weaker eastern european nations to form the Soviet Union, while at the same time claiming that he was doing them a favour by ridding them of capitalism.

American soldiers kill, plunder and rape women and children in Iraq, almost five years after Saddam Hussein was caught.

Fidel Castro has a fortune of 900 million dollars, while most cuban families live for less than a dollar each day. Comrade Senile also killed five times as many people as Fulgencio Batista. Yet, he was "enraged" by the injustice during the Batista regime.

Hitler also claimed that he wanted to make the world a better place, and fooled an entire nation into invading the rest of Europe. I don't have to write any more about Little Adi.

All of these so-called saviours of the world have one thing in common. They all seek to gain from their own self-proclaimed acts of heroism. And all of them asked something from their people. And they all had selfish alterior motives.

Jesus Christ is the best example of a saviour not doing it for the money.

Well, this sure got off-topic fast!

I am a mix of Libertarian and Socialist; I think the Government should not be telling us how to live our lives, but it should be helping those who cannot make it in our highly competitive society. To me, the expression "from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs" is intuitively obvious.

So are Buddha or Mahavira, BTW! (And maybe all three were inspired by leaving their mark on the earth by proxy via their ideology... just pondering)

/me does not think she has a place on the political left-right spectrum. On a 2 dimensional I am called a libertarian, but this does no fit me all that well. I do not think that we're screwed but I too am against too much simplification. I often am a pro-civil rights, pro-privacy, pro-open-source, laissez-faire secularist, OTOH I do think that a 'social net' is needed to prevent absolute or even too extreme relative poverty. I often lack opinions on things (like the environment). I am politically active though and think that this is the most important 'spectrum' in regards to politics. I mind no political ideology as much as apathy

According to that test in the other WP thread I am economically quite right wing, and more totalitarian than democratic. It said in general I am moderate leftist.

In reality I would consider myself a quite staunch leftist. I am not advocating communism, but strongly advocate socialism. I am anti conservative and advocate multiculturalism, and find human rights of core importance more than economical policies. Hence why, despite some economically liberal points of view, I consider myself very leftist. On all issues that I find very important I am left to very left wing. I also think some of Karl Marx ideas should be applied in a slightly adapted version, generally I think the man had some great ideas.

I am against freedom of speech as it exists now, I believe in a one party socialist state, and I am strongly against severe punishments against crime (especially strongly against capital punishment)

Other than the regular left/right issue, I must say that in my native Belgium I am a belgicist (so against a Flemish independent state), in European politics I do favor a strong EU partnership and am not against a unified European state with confederal model.

Mostly Social Democratic, but I believe in Gun Rights (no RPG's and no criminals or loony people with guns), and that a country's debt should be at most, no more that 40% of GDP, and optimally it should be about 10-20% of GDP.
