As one person said there is no evidence in the non existenxce as well.

Of course there isn't there's no way to prove something doesn't exist but that doesn't mean it does by default. If you were to believe in everything that can't be disproven you would be worshiping the flying spaghetti monster, the celestial teapot and Moop's sock drawer leprechauns as well.

I think the question here is considering the infinite number of things that can be asserted without evidence of its existence why did you choose to believe in one over all others?

Enough Religious supremacism. I got bored of it quite a while ago... 40+ years to be more precise. you were probably not even born at that time.

for my entire life i have heard about religious disputes, wars and what ever. no matter which religion involved.

i'm sick and tired of hearing about religion and this so called "god" stuff. it has never done anything good to humanity for several thousand years!

so... why should i accept that religious people disrespect my choice of being an non-believer? i can't avoid hearing their views because its all over where ever i go, look and listen ... and as soon as i (or other non-believers) express a view on this topic, believers crave respect for the people who believe in this religious nonsens.

religious aspies are by far a minority in the aspie world.... simply because for most aspies religion makes no sense - is not rational and lacks proof and logic.

in the nordic regions where i live the vikings once had a nice cosy religion. unfortunately it got silenced and oppressed by the christians. they took the viking holidays and made them theirs... to assure that the viking would convert.

so happy Yule to all of you believers too! lets drink and eat for 12 days... and celebrate the resurection of the sun!

Religious supremacism? Not quite. You are the one going on about "Oh Aspies are just so logical and so much better than NT's, we would never be suckered into believing in anything as foolish as religion, no, that's only for the ignorant pack NT herds."

Quote:

I don't pick fights with other religions.

Simply false.

Quote:

I don't disrespect you for being an atheist, I disrespect you for being an arrogant jackass. The two don't necessarily go hand-in-hand, though I've noticed they often do.

You have no basis for this claim. Demographic data on Aspies is far too sparse to make any such claim.

@ Orwell could you extrapolate a little further.

On the cosmological argument? Basically, it's the whole "first cause" deal, why anything exists. It goes back to the ancient Greeks, who postulated the existence of a "prime mover" or "unmoved mover." Something has to have caused the universe to come into existence, and this thing is, under the cosmological argument, assigned the name "God." Of course, this argument does not establish Christianity or even necessarily theism. It could very easily be used to support some variant of deism, or the idea of a demiurge or similar entity. There are some other arguments to be made not only for the existence of a God, but also for specifically theism and then why Christianity is the "best" variant of theism, but frankly I just don't feel like engaging in a 20-page debate against the evangelical atheists right now.

WHo says I don't.

Also being UNable to prove/disprove something nnow is not the same as being UNable ti ever prove/disprove it

I have read about people who believe man was created by some alien species, but I have trouble understanding how that notion goes deep enough into the question of a deity. Who created the aliens?

While it is unknown what was the first cause of the universe there's no evidence that it was sentient so why do people believe it was?

Just wondering if anyone has a theory.

[edit] Just simple anthropomorphism?

i have no idea. maybe a higher species or a mix of evolution luck and chance made them, consiquently i dont think there existance is all much too different from our own. they either evolved slowly over time, or a much supirior alien created them and then they created us. sounds crazy but im shure there hiding somewhere out in the universe. after all if you go and study sumerian culture they had vast knowelege of the solar system and of dna, and origins. what they basically said is an alien created them and showed them how to be civilized. it all went downhill after that however when other cultures ripped them off and stole there ideas

I know that believing in god has an effect on my life. I can't separate the two things ( god and belief ).

So then you would agree, if we were in fact created by another humanoid species, they are most likely not God, not the creater of everything that is? I never much liked this notion of being created by aliens, because if there is a God, then humans would almost be an abomination. But who knows? Maybe we are a bit like the mule, maybe we should not really exist at all, maybe that is why we are so fundamentally flawed?

Because I can. Well,I don't call it a being exactly.

There's no evidence whatsoever against the existence of an ultimate entity. So I'd say everyone is free to believe or not in anything they wish.

Big IMHO coming:

If we take the fact the old myths (including the bible) share some similarities between the so called gods/angels/demons, I think that it is VERY likely some civilization came here to at least have fun with human race making us treat them like gods. If not that they actually 'created' us. That would indeed make us an abomination, or maybe a civilization's mission is to create more civilizations and let the universe keep evolving, who knows?

well to us if they did create us or help us along i would say they created everything we knew so in theory we would have to awknowelege them as gods. and you get at a good point, i personally dont think we were ever supose to leave the canopee. but some mischevious alien had other plans and made hybrids of them and the humaniods that were already here making us

So long as those beliefs do not pose a danger to others.

Just thought I should point out that little caveat.
