What is your opinion on scientology?
Well, I would think that scientology would certainly be worse than the libertarian party, although, to be honest, most libertarians I know of or respect are at best only loosely affiliated with that party.
For the record, L. Ron Hubbard was a paranoid schizophrenic, and he hated psychiatrists because pretty much every psychologist/psychiatrist said that Dianetics was pseudo-science.
It really sheds some light onto why the religion is so crazy.

Oh, and 'Anons' who protest with the guy fawkes masks fail.
Why?
I think Scientology is a pretty big threat if it isn't checked. Sometimes I suspect the 'Church' has members sit on computers 24/7 and do searches for Scientology-related topics. They'll be here soon
Uh...Jim Jones and Koresh's cults died to a person...some of them quite violently.
Scientologists have this procedure for new entrants that involves a 'scientific instrument' that they wave over the body to determine if they're 'balanced'. No one is, ever. The treatments to 'balance' you cost a good bit of money.
The guy who succeeded L Ron Hubbard sounds like a...better not say. They have an Internet presence, and it's possible that they're already are monitoring this thread. People who disagree with Scientology in any way face.....consequences.

Without going too offtopic, anon was about the lulz. It was not about saving people or going to group-hugs. If anything, good, old anon would've laughed at the people who're into this crap. Now, it is full of 13 year olds who wish to save the world from 'teh big ebul peepz'. The generation is seperated-- Real anon is a face-less green anon in a suit, and delivers. New 'anon' is a f****r wearing a guy-fawkes mask, and does not.

Well Anonymous was certainly about the 'lulz' and still is. A handful of members with some foresight decided to take action in order to defend the right for 'lulz' to exist. If the Church had their way, there would be massive internet censorship. Its hardly a bunch of '13 year olds' who go out and protest across the street from their city chapters.

they actually have a gun-toting compound (ala Waco). And they send misbehaving members to a secret compound to be "disciplined/brainwashed".

There is no chance of Scientology ever to control the internet. At all.
No where did I say they would control it, they want more restrictions and censorship, and they have the money to push for it. You act as if your statement is matter of fact when you don't even deign to reason why. I don't expect them to succeed at this point, however, they are a crafty bunch. I wonder how many there actually are, considering the unreliability of the Church's statements. My guess is that there's probably no more then 150,000.
OMG! That someone can believe THIS! Gee, if you believe that you must be on the edge of insanity!
Most of you are American, so you probably know more about scientology than Europeans do. I started yesterday to read about it, after I've read in a newspaper that a scientologist in Germany was accused of brainwashing television viewers with his religion. I don't see how you can do that, but the German police called it a ''dangerous cult'' and that made me wonder what it was. I found generally spoken two types of internetsites on it: Sites critisizing it heavily, saying it's a very dangerous dictatorial totally insane cult, with complete control over its just as insane members, and sites saying its so rational and ''scientific'', mentioning how many good things the scientologists have done. The ''critics'' had YouTube films, where you could see how scientologists overreact to critisism, harass and threaten non-members or even kill their pets. Also small documentaries on how the organistation is built. On the other hand, scientologists had videos on how great they help people and support help and non-profit organisations. Also weird videos on psychiatry, which was supposed to have caused for istance the Holocaust.
Dutch pro-sites hide in their stories a lot of insanities of this Hubbard. This man must have been insane and mad. However, the Dutch sites I've seen made it look quite rational except for the hatred towards psychiatry. The critsism is said to be the result of bored people wanting to bah someone and bad rumors.

I GRADUATED WITH THE HIGHEST GRADES OF MY YEAR!! !! !
I read that Hubbard started scientology about a year after saying to a friend that the way to get rich was to start a religion. I read a little about the tenets of scientology, and it made me suspect that Hubbard deliberately designed the most ridiculous cult he could think of, perhaps on the principle that people who could believe this rubbish deserved to be parted from their money. An essential element of scientology is that you pay to advance to the next rank and be introduced to the next level of the doctrine.
My thoughts exactly.
I'd like to let loose a few of my vague opinions on scientology and L.Ron hubbard. Im just speculating here so dont amp up if you think im crazy lol.
After reading one of his books 'mission earth' and getting a feel for his style of satire i've become of the opinion that scientology was, aside from being a way for him to get rich, Hubbards ultimate creation of satire. He created a religion so ridiculous that it is itself form of satire, passing off the ultimately ridiculous and unbelievable as fact with fanatical and obnoxious conviction. Even now, long after his death, what he started continues to live on and forever illustrate just how gullible and malleable stupid people can be. His followers are caricatures. A sheep running with a herd of crazies will follow them off of a cliff...
Scientology is a parody of other religions similar to the satirical style of Stephen Colbert. His followers will relentlessly and obnoxiously defend their beliefs in the face of logic and truth and refer to the so called facts in their book (dianetics, much like the bible to christians) to try and justify their ridiculous beliefs.
He loves his espionage. Loves writing from the viewpoint of the 'bad guy'... the greedy and manipulativey foil to the clueless but beloved hero. The cowardly puppet master who always hides his cards and sneers at happy and malleable people around him.
Argh its late and im having trouble finding the right words to describe something thats fascinated for some while. Maybe i can show you what i mean by quoting some of the things he had to say on the subject of satire, he was fanatical about it. He goes into great detail on the origins and breakthroughs in satire throughout history.... he's made a breakthrough of his own that im sure some day will be mentioned alongside the roman/greek poets that he was so fond of. He made a lasting impression on the world.... he created a new medium for satire.... that fuels itself. All he had to do was light the fire then sit back and have a giggle about it.
-quotes coming later, im thumbing through this book trying to find the bits i had in mind.
.....
Although satire is sometimes identified with comedy and certainly it can be funny - it is essentially concerned with exposing some flaw or excess.
........
So to summarise, i reckon scientology aside from being a big scam is his greatest work of satire and scientologies followers provide an awesome parody of religious nuts..... who believe in lord xenu.....
