As our knowledge of the universe increases the role God, ourselves and the earth plays continually shrinks. It was once believed that the earth and ourselves (in gods image) were at the centre of the universe, we now know that;

"Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral Arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun.
Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety two million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea" D Adams

As we learn more God will become less and less significant until the concept turns into a cultural tale like Aboriginal dreaming ( primarily that the Rainbow Serpent is the creator); the story is taught but no-one actually believes it

You are forgetting First Rule of Reason, which states:

"The burden of proof for a claim rests solely upon the person or persons asserting said claim."

Aaronrey has asserted a claim - actually three claims in one sentence:
    (a) "god created the universe";

    (b) "let it evolve"; and

    (c) "without further interference".
:: Aaronrey must therefore provide evidence to support his claims (a, b, and c). Failure to do so nullifies his claims and renders this entire thread irrelevant.

If the person is claiming absolute certainty, yes, as it seems the poster, did, but then, we are making an interpretation of intent, basing it on a post that doesn't provide much argument.

Shiggily's response seem to be much better given the nature of the claim.

By the way, I'll try to remember that exact quote next time someone claims making generatizations about religionists being this and that. ;)

Irrelevant to whom? The thread IS relevant, because it is in the Politics, Philosophy, and Religion forum, by that statement it would mean that religious topics should be all irrelevant due to being unable to provide evidence for the existence of God, with discussions related to God, but given the nature of this forum, that statement doesn't seem to hold.

None.

Evidence against it, please?

Indeed, An assertion about something being false is still an assertion therefore requires proof.

well, in all fairness, he didn't actually asserted that to be false, it's very reasonable to not take anything with certainty and demand for evidence, in order to take it empirically, it isn't invalid to do so, what would make it invalid is the context in which would it be used, and if its used correctly in a giving place, and wether the views regarding a given issue, to the same issue, to be consistent or not. Asserting that the thread is "irrelevant" that I would find it to be invalid.

Thank you.

Point taken. I withdraw the assertion, in spite of its conditional nature.

I am trying to be more circumspect in such cases. > LINK TO ONE EXAMPLE <

it's no answer. it only raises up more questions.

I find it hard to believe that such an answer can satisfy an intelligent person who seeks to find some truth about things...

life provides new questions and very few answers. A truly intelligent person admits to what they know, do not know and will never know. And then still seeks the truth.

So why do you believe in fairy tales

And that drives you nuts. :lol:

I would agree with that as a possibility. Maybe a creator created DNA? I will point out I am no supporter of intelligent design it is just interesting to thin about.

God of the gaps is no answer at all.

gaps are in human intelligence. If there is a god, he does not exist merely to fill the gaps in our minds.

Thank you! :hail:

And why hasn't anyone put forth the notion that is not only the gaps in our minds but what also what fills our minds as well?

Some people seem to have larger gaps in their mind to fill than others :lol:

Gaps in human knowledge serve to bookend whatever we learn, whenever we learn it. Infinite knowledge is one thing, infinite wisdom is another.

Is there an absolute limit as to how much human beings can know?

Good to hear that you have no rational explanation for your beliefs :P

Is there a rational explanation for God? I don't know that there is.
