It is about balancing your interests with and against the interests of others.

You have a goyische kopf.

Because humans are naturally ignorant with a pack-like mentality.

Because good people never admit they are actually bad people.

Or maybe there are no "bad" people. Merely stupid or misdirected people with no feeling for anybody else.

Bad things don't just happen to good people, they happen to everybody...

also, there's a question of what is a bad thing... you may think a thing that happened to you is bad, but in the final analysis ends up being good for you...

like, you could get a flat tire (bad) and then boink the tow truck driver (good) who ends up giving you gonorrhea (bad) leaving you sick on the day your boss told you not to miss under any circumstances and so you lose your job (very bad) which leaves you no rent money and so you lose your home and end up homeless (extremely bad) and while you suffer as a homeless person you have a flash of inspiration that leads you to invent a totally new type of housing unit that permanently solves the homelessness problem for everyone and makes you a billionaire in the process (very very good)... would the flat and the STD and being broke and homeless have been a good thing or a bad thing at that point?

The way the world works is that specific things happen at specific times in specific places due to specific factors (usually involving others' and your own actions), and to live a 'good' life (in the sense you are implying) you need to be there when 'good' things happen and not be there when 'bad' things happen. The problem is, it is very hard to predict when and where what things happen  . Morally good people restrict themselves and bad people restrict others, so bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people.

We are all just running around a chaotic universe though currently we are trapped on a single planet (and a bit of space and a moon).

I find it makes me feel better about my life (which I regard as being pretty bad) if I think of things that way.

Now if only we could get an army of bad people united working under a good person who controls them all... but that good person would inevitable turn bad... I think a perfect society is impossible because humanity is flawed.

But "good" and "bad" are labels constructed by humans. What we label as good\bad is different from person to person.

While I agree with objective reality, I do believe that good and bad are valid concepts. Yes, what's good to Jeffrey Dahmer or Adolf Hitler isn't good to their victims. However, their happiness rested on the compromising the well being of other people. True good comes from a common harmony for all. True evil comes from the pursuit of personal harmony at the expense of disharmony for everyone else.

Everybody has a different perception of 'good' and 'bad'. Most people believe that they are essentially good, regardless of whether they follow their own moral code as strictly as they enforce it upon other people.

It is therefore inevitable that 'bad' things will happen to 'good' people.

Because a lot of bad people are stronger and smarter than a lot of good people. In general, the world is run by mostly people who are neither good nor bad but act in their own interests whatever that requires.

and if what they believe is required happens to be bad for somebody else, then what does that make the people who performed said actions?
