Well, this is more comples than a hate/love issue (though some people just hate or love, this a different thing).

I can say, for example, that here in Europe where there's gun restrictions, you don't see ever a gun (except the ones ported by police). Deaths by gunfiring ar far lower. Taking that into account, I support completely gun control (personal opinion).

That said, one of the reasons that keep guns out the scene is that police pay a lot of attention to it. If you're criminal, you'd rather don't use guns unless absolutely necessary, otherwise you're very likely to get the police focused on you. VERY focused on you. That discourages using guns.

But this is possible because there has been gun control since the very beginninig, so there's few guns out there, so police can focus on you if you're using guns, so they can keep the gun 'level' low: it's a feedback stuff. However, controlling guns in a country where guns are already so widely spread as US, so police has not resources enough to go after every gunfire (as it happens in Europe)...

Another reason why gun crime is so high is because our justice system is lenient on convicted criminals and our police have little to no community ties. Someone pointed this fact out before and if you notice in Japan crime rate is lower because over there if they commit a crime with a gun there is no parole for good behavior there are no deals you do the full time end of story. Here in America people are not afraid to go to prison hell in some prisons it's like a party and they'd rather be in prison then out on the streets. Free food, alcohol, candies and weed. Yeah that's the message our justice system is sending and it's no wonder crime rates have not dropped.

There are 300,000,000 firearms of various kinds in private hands in the U.S.

Reasonable doubt has nothing to do with this There is no reasonable doubt that Zimmerman killed Martin. Thats not an issue. Zimmerman admitted it. His defense was that he was justified.

I thik this is related to how socially firearms are considered. In my country, for example, they have a very negative image. This is because there's some kind of 'unwritten' rules where some crimes can be 'forgivable' (up to a point) but some other ones just went too far. Usually anything that involves hurting another person, as raping or murdering, is considered 'going too far, no way back'. Handling firearms is considered highly risky for human lives and it's someway included in the 'going too far' group. I think in Japan something similar happens, like 'hey dude, you used a gun, and that was a dealbreaker'.

But in US firearms are socially accepted, and this is not gonna change. And even though I don't support firearms, if I was in US and knowing that guns are alll around and crime uses them, I would keep one in the bedroom. No doubt about it. So it's a really complicated subject...

No,but he has given them a foot in the door.I don't know if he had any training for that gun,and neighborhood watch is not suppose to confront people.Call the ones who are trained,the cops.In my opinion(and that's all it is),he did not act with reasonable care.If Trayvon was that menacing,why did he approach him?I'm not confronting someone who looks threatening.I'll wait I'm my car,like anyone with common sense would have.If he had used good judgement ,none of this would have happened.

I don't know what that has to do with one's views on gun laws. I'm pro-gun and I think that Zimmerman should've gotten manslaughter instead of murder since mens rea is much harder to establish. I don't know whether or not he intended to murder Trayvon but the fact that he went out of his way to pursue him lead to an unnecessary death.
