You people
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
they by all means. explain what you think irony is. According to the encyclopedia (the definition of which I am going off of) Irony is a language device in which the real intent is concealed or contradicted by the literal meaning of words or a situation, also a figure of speech in which what is stated is not what is meant. The dictionary also states "the use of words to mean something very different from what they appear on the surface to mean" and "the use of words to express something other than and esp. the opposite of the literal meaning ".
Perhaps I am wrong and you have some secret information I do not have access to.
Can you comprehend what the definition of irony? I don't think you really understand the definition irony. You seem very childish
explain it to me then. Also explain to me why you think I am childish

I think it depends. sometimes face palm pictures, or head desk pictures merely indicate frustration on the part of the speaker. It would be part of nonverbal communication in a face-to-face conversation, but is lost online.

it now reads correctly. Calling someone childish is also well ... immature since its meant as a personal attack. Which is also what the thread is about ... I don't think people get the irony on the otherside as well. People wonder why I have to be ashamed not because I'm wired differently but because people with that same wiring give it such a bad name.

I gave you 3 examples. Unfortunately WP does not have a link to post option.
No you gave 3 styles of argument that upset you, I am interested in the actual content. Copy and paste is always useful

Fortunately, WP does have a link to post option(in a kind of round-about way). Unfortunately, it's not immediately obvious and thus often overlooked/not noticed by members.
If you look at someone's post, at the top (where date is located over top of the post, and in-line with the user-name), you should see a little rectangular icon that looks a bit like a page with the top right corner bent over (the word 'posted' appears directly the right of the icon). That little icon is a link directly to the post. If you open it up in a new tab, you can copy and paste the address from the address bar, and use it as a hyperlink in a post, creating in effect a direct link to post you wish to direct others to.
There may be a more efficient means of using this facility (to link directly to posts) but if there is I do not know what it is, and opening a new tab with the icon, copying the address and using the hyperlink tab to insert the link into a post works just fine.

the argument did not upset me as the comments where not directed at me. And copying and pasting the entire content of multiple threads is very off-topic. However I will pm you a few examples.

Thanks for the PM. You have confirmed to me that you do not yet understand some of the dynamics of PPR. Myself, Slowmutant, Orwell, Fnord, AG, Dox 47, Sand et al have a history of directness with each other, the example you give of me accusing slowmutant of believing in fairy tales was very tongue in cheek, he knew it and so will you when you have been around a bit longer.
We also have respect for each other which has been demonstrated time and again. I can see your point if a person new to PPR gets flamed on their first post, this has happened on occasion and is wrong, mind you the example set by claire 333 is a good one; apparently she spent a couple of weeks reading the various posts and getting to understand the dynamics before jumping in. I am not saying that this is necessary but if you are easily offended it might be wise.
Personally I think the level of discourse in PPR is now quite healthy.
As stated by sinsboldy
"2. Personal attacks.
This includes insinuation, ridicule and personal insults, regardless of whether direct or indirect. Attacking an opinion, belief or philosophy is acceptable, but attacking the person making the comments is not.
"Jane, you ignorant slut" is not permissible
"Jane, your opinion is ignorant/sluttish"
"Jane, your beliefs are ignorant/sluttish"
"Jane, your philosophy is ignorant/sluttish" are rude, but allowed.
if someone identifies too closely with their opinions, beliefs or philosophy that they take offense as if it is a personal attack then they might want to take a look at that. "
So whilst respecting the rules I propose that your opinion on the state of PPR is a little bit precious.

I'll corroborate this. Even if DentArthurDent is a godless Communist, and slowmutant and I are delusional religionists, etc, it works for us. We know each other well enough that we can generally argue without hurting each other's feelings- this is PPR, we're not here for that. Most of the "conflict" between PPR regulars is light-hearted, though sometimes that's hard to know when you aren't familiar with that dynamic, especially in text-only interactions which have much less room for more obvious cues of playfulness.

You know, I don't think Arthur Dent was much of a commie. I mean, he doesn't seem much given to political activism in general, and the only dealing we ever see him having with government is when he stands up to the local government for his individual property rights over the "common good" as defined by the State and embodied in the plan to build a bypass through his house. It seems like he just wanted to be left alone to live his life in peace without state interference. Clearly, Arthur Dent was more likely a Libertarian than a Communist, and since you're named DentArthurDent you should be just like him and stand up against oppressive government rather than being a commie bastard. ![]()

Actually, every action of mine is an expression of the deepest, profoundest hatred. No play at all. None. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Not even joking. Well... maybe joking a little. Ok, possibly a lot.

Except for kittens you do really want to boil them in catnip laced cream, please say this at least is true

In general, my approach tries to be logical and well informed and, since we all have our limitations, I can make some serious errors. Religion has always been a problem to me as it has no real base except in emotions and desire for a beneficent universe and, at best, the universe appears to me as neutral. I can sometimes be intolerant over unfounded beliefs in an era when what appears to me to be a naive perception can put basic survival of humanity and a considerable slice of other life in serious danger. The universe tolerates neither ignorance nor stupidity and provides ready, swift, and frightful punishments for each. It's easy to get angry and out of sorts when great dangers are so immanent.
Yes, because that was a *brilliant* idea!
We've already had this argument. Soggy kittens taste terrible because of the wet fur. No, they have to be strangled. Maybe barbecued. Whether this is done before or after strangling is optional, and a matter of personal taste.
