not so. i have managed to pass as NT for most of my 43 years, by changing my behaviour, and learning scripts, etc.

anyway, your point is illogical, as you are talking about behaviours with gay people, and wiring with aspies. if you spoke about wiring in both, or behaviours in both, your argument would be more logical.

After taking the last hour and a half to read the multitude of posts on this particular thread, I find it an interesting discussion. A bit frustrating, but chocked full of thought provokers as well. And I don't think it a wasted discussion at all if I have the time and want to "waste". I answer this because I want to. Not because I'm trying to solve the world's problems (in answer to Postperson's persistent frustrations).

I, myself, am a lesbian. I am an atheist. I am an Aspergian. I am a white/non-hispanic. I am a Missourian. I am an American. I am a human.

So many labels.

Despite what I am labeled, why is it any of my business what another two people do if it does not involve me? Heterosexual marriage. Gay marriage. A relationship between two people that has nothing to do with me despite what I am. I have no "right" to stop it nor should my support for it give it existence. My best is merely to express my own opinion either way.

So, I am for gay marriage because that could affect me in the future and I will do what I can to bring the opportunity to fruition.

Quote:
An asexual homosexual??? That sounds like a paradox, maybe even an oxymoron!

I am also an asexual. Not because I think homosexual relations are wrong. Mostly because of my Aspieness and difficulty with ANY relationship and with skin-to-skin contact. So, Sean, I suppose I am also an oxymoron-- asexual, same as some heterosexuals are. Are they oxymorons as well?

The complication lies in separating people into groups.

PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE. No two people are the same.

In addition, religious arguments have no relevance to me due to my own personal beliefs. And my biological and sociological/anthropoligical arguments would be futile the other way around. So I'll refrain and hope we meet on COMMON ground.

Methinks that's what we're trying to get at. I don't believe in discrimination against people (even if I don't care much for them anyways), but the act of being gay (I believe) is wrong. I'm not forcing anyone to side with me on this, though, and am trying to stay as open-minded as I can. :)

Well, no one's forcing you to be gay, so if you think it's wrong that's your own business.

Being gay is not a debatable issue. It just is. And in my opinion, it is great :D No matter what people's opinions are, there will always be gay people, and they should always have the right to live their lives as they choose, just like straight people do.

right. thi is a serious question - no hidden agenda, and i don't know the answer, so would all who have quoted the bible when they say being gay is wrong please answer (or anyone else , obviously).

WHY is it a sin, or wrong, to be gay/perform homosexual acts? it's dawned on me that i haven't heard a reason, yet.

Because the people who wrote that book wrote it based on society's beliefs at the time. I haven't read the bible, but I have read on the net quotes about other sins that are never enforced (I think there was one saying that woman wears clothes with two different types of stitching gets stoned to death or something), which is why people who are against homosexuality because of the bible are hypocrites.

Sorry to any religious people out there, but the reason homophobia isn't considered as bad as racism is because it's blatantly obvious that people can't choose their race, but it's harder to prove that about sexuality. A lot of rightwing extremists who only listen to what can be easily explained in words, and don't use their brains. Rightwing views are much harder to explain than leftwing ones. However, whenever someone succeeds at getting their point across, they can use religion as their last resort, which is what George Bush does. Because there's nothing about discrimination of race, but plenty about sexuality, they can use the bible as an excuse to discriminate against homosexuals.

So when more people hear about Asperger Syndrome, there will be plenty of rightwings who will say it doesn't exist and it's another excuse for laziness/bad behaviour etc. Thankfully religion isn't against that as far as I'm aware.

good points, thatrsdude, but the question remains...

what is it about homosexuality that is wrong? specifically.

No, it is as if they are intelligent enough to understand that legal recognition of a relationship, aka marriage, has many benefits. It has nothing to do with 'normal' and has everything to do with the law. If the government would get out of the business of licensing and granting marriages, and allowing special recognition of rights granted to married couples, 'homosexuals' would have no argument to make on this matter.

I don't see it as homosexuals wanting equal rights, they want more. They already have more. Higher earnings, a notion of 'homophobia' which makes it illegal for anyone to criticize them. Straights and asexuals don't have this. I would like to belong to such a group, the extra priveleges would be nice! not to mention the money!

You state this as if you would have to support that entire agenda. You don't have to. Allowing 'gay marriage' has nothing to do with the other things you mention. A black man marrying a white woman would no doubt prefer they not be attacked for it. That doesn't mean we have to ban that marriage. You may not know this, but interracial marriage was actually illegal in some states until 1967.

This can happen whenever someone is critical of a minority. It comes with the territory and is relatively meaningless.

It's just that many people don't like the idea that it requires lateral thinking and open mindedness for NT's to accept them, so they look for an excuse not to.

What if this is turned into a non-religious debate? I know that the Bible, and probably other religious books, prohibit gay marriage, but since none of us can agree on religion (based on the "What religion are you?" thread), it's not a valid basis for argument anymore.

It's kind of like if I were to argue something ethical with someone who had totally different moral and ethical standards than myself, based off a totally different source which I did not believe. It would not be right for that person to force their beliefs (with support from their source) on me because I did not believe in their source which they have used as a fundamental basis for their argument.

How would you respond if this was a non-religious debate? Even though I am a Christian and believe the Bible, others here don't. And it wouldn't be fair for someone to use their religious book if we cannot use ours. If we cannot agree on which set of religious beliefs to debate by, why not just make it a non-religious argument?
