You're American, aren't you? I'm impressed, especially if that was the original series you watched (not the new one).

I forget the name of the actor, but I watched the Doctor Who played by the same guy who played PuddleGlum the Marsh-Wiggle in the BBC Movie The Silver Chair.

What do you think of Clyde Staples Lewis?

Puddleglum was Tom Baker, a truly outstanding Who. Some say the best. Known for the long scarf, the fact he used to be a brickie before he was an actor, and one of the premium grade eccentrics of all time :)

Yeah, Tom Baker's the one I used to watch, so he's the forth Doctor?

Indeed he was.. One list of doctors classical for your perusal :)

(Seems that Peter Cushing in the older movie incarnations is not an "official" doctor.)

Baker was awesome, though Tennant is also (dare I say equally?) awesome. I have a few episodes of the old series on DVD -- very costly in the US. My two favorite episodes are Sarah Jane's last and Tom Baker's last -- respectively, "The Hand of Fear" and "Logopolis". The parting scene in Hand of Fear was beautiful, as was, as you've mentioned, the doctor's regeneration in Logopolis.

Did anyone else see the 1996 movie starring Paul McGann? It's somewhat like the modern series, in being dark 'n creepy.

I watched it on channel 2, PBS, back when I lived in Texas. Have things changed much on the TV since I left Texas in 2003?

I recall watching it, and I know it had a cameo by sylvester mccoy.. its also where they gave the tardis its first makeover in umpteen years. Cant recall the plot being all that special, but the mood was definitely darker, somewhat less silly than earlier plotlines had been. (That godawful Bertie Basset monster they had.. for example)

Not really. Then again, I haven't watched broadcast TV in my home in almost a year and a half. Got tried of the commercials and poor reception in my apartment, so now I just watch DVDs. MUUUCH better! :D Plus, I'm not into the latest shows. I've got the Bob Newhart Show and MASH on DVD, plus Seinfeld, 3rd Rock from the Sun, and several British series.

Cool, I don't have an antenna but I mainly watch videos too. Not series like that but movies such as 1776:

He was not a brickie before he became an actor, he was a brickie before he became Doctor Who. He was acting on stage well before that, with Anthony Hopkins and Laurence Olivier. But he was out of work before he played Doctor Who. Read his auto, Who on Earth is Tom Baker?

The old series is done?

1963-1989. Unless you count the 1996 TV movie.

Ahh, misremebered trivia from my youth. I seem to recall being caught up on him being a brickie because my dad was one, and in typical youthful spectrum logic, then began to wonder if all Timelords were Brickies, and vice versa.

My old man did have a lot of screwdrivers.... and some of them lit up...

A Paratiel is a good thing, and a curiosity.
