The difference there is just a matter of numbers. If you recognize that a large number of people make a small impact on a large scale you must also recognize that a small number of people make a small impact on a small scale.

I don't know whether we're just talking around each other at this point or what.

I think we are reasoning in parallel. I can see the position you are putting forward and can appreciate how you view it as applicable. Where we diverge is in the question of if it should be applied and I don't really see a need to take on your position which mostly presents as an attempt to build a social contract around guns. The fact that it is so rare for such a situation to occur is testament to its difficulty. When I look around the rest of the more civilized areas of the world I see social contracts that involve weapons but do not involve the claim that they ought to be used to uphold the social contract. Given how those societies are, in my view based on preferable social contracts, I don't see the need to take on your own position. Further, it requires a citizen take full responsibility for themselves and others and therefor is a social contract that has no real place for treating a less than fully physically capable citizen as fully capable of participation in their role as a citizen in civilian life.

What's an extended magazine? If an AR-15 was designed to use 20 and 30 round mags then there's nothing extended about them. Same for handguns that were designed for high capacity magazines. Helps to know a little first. And all of my magazines work fine. It's very rare that they don't.

Your argument was that if the shooter was using an extended mag (and we later established that he was - but we can extend the principle of the argument to mean he was carrying a 40 round mag instead of a 33 round mag)...

IIrc in that particular case it was more like '15' vs. '30.'

Quote:
I brought up the person who was carrying as an example that the situation very well could have been that he didn't stop to reload, but instead that man came up and shot him...

IIrc the CCW guy in question said something like, 'it was too chaotic, there were people everywhere, and I quickly decided that adding more gunfire to the situation wouldn't help.' But maybe I'm misremembering.

I don't know about you, but I personally am a hell of a lot more likely to jump at someone if he *isn't* actively firing a weapon at me.

I already explained that I don't feel the need to justify my purchases with anyone; much the same as you might feel if I asked you to justify why you bought the clothes that you're wearing. For the most part I do use multiple magazines - but the point is if there's no value added by restricting them, then why restrict them in the first place?

My clothes aren't designed to kill lots of things, very fast. There's a little bit more public interest in controlling guns than in controlling clothing.
You don't need to tell me why you use extended magazines, but you do need to stop pretending that they're useless for an active shooter against civilians.
Quote:
No - you can be well trained and still be a danger to yourself or others. The newtown shooter had, by all accounts, plenty of training under his belt - it didn't stop him from being a danger to others.

That was the exact opposite of my point, which was not that 'training always makes one not dangerous,' but that 'it's difficult to claim that CCWs are better trained and better shots than the cops, if you don't require even vision, much less range qualification, universal background checks, etc, to issue a CCW'.

I think every woman should carry a gun because a man isnt always going to be around to provide protection for a woman and plus it encourages women to be more independent from men! A woman has every right to carry a gun and protect herself and her children from a man that intends to attack her or her children or in some cases an evil woman attacking her or her children or her man! Yes sometimes a woman has to protect her man too!

You still haven't shown us that magazine capacity plays any significant role in gun crime, so why should we even take your feelings on the matter into consideration?

Settling with that equality sounds very much like Hollywood fantasy. Would you really want to enter a duel where both you and your adversary have a gun?

When a private citizen carries a weapon, the message is again different: I'm a citizen, I'm carrying a weapon because I want to protect people, including myself, from harm. I don't really care if you take a candy bar, but you'd better not try to rape anybody while I'm around.

I believe that, in the same way that police wear uniforms as a deterrent to crime, me carrying a weapon is similarly a deterrent. It's certainly debatable whether that is a valid theory (I debate that even with other gun owners all the time) - but it's the theory I choose to live by. If it does some small amount of good in the world then that's great - if it doesn't, then call me an idiot at my eulogy - but it certainly won't cause any harm.

I am not sure do you view every other people carrying a gun, who is not an officer, the same way? With such view you are pretty much ensuring free pass for any criminals who wish to carry his gun. You seem to have really great faith the situation will always favor the 'good guy'. This is probably where you on one side and 91 and me on the other side really diverges.

It made a non-statistically significant difference in the Giffords shooting. That shooter got off 31 rounds; how many more would have lived if he'd had to reload after 10 or 15?

Is one case your definition of statistically significant?

So, am I completely missing your rationale for wanting to restrict magazine capacity then, since it seems you're acknowledging that it doesn't have much of an effect on crime?

next it'll be if he only had 5 rounds how many would have live then if he only had 1 round how many would have lived then if he hadn't had a gun how many would have lived . NY is a fin example of this they went from 30rds ok to 10 rds to 7 rds and now have plans to restrict it more.

funny how antis can't agrre on the round count antis in colorada so 15 the ones in ny say 7 cal says 10 others say 3

just cause a 100 rd drum has problems don't mean i should be limited to 10 what a giant leap

as for what if he only had 10 you go bang 10 times then start shooting with your other pistol while at same time dropping the first one to pull a 3rd then drop the 2nde and pull a 4th is one example and is what the Vtech shooter did

and lets not forget how many people a guy with a 5 round bolt action in a tower was able to kill
could this be why Illinois tried to ban bolt action rifles :o wait those are hunting guns. a hunting rifle to one person is a sniper rifle in the eyes of another.

why can cars go 290 mph when the fastest speed limit in the us is 75mph? maybe if we limited all cars to say 60mph we could decrease car deaths but then the car lovers would freak out and resist

in the uk they tried to ban kitchen knifes

one anti-gun support was quoted saying something along the lines as (idk the exact wording so i won't use "")we'll do Universal background checks and if that don't decrease gun crime then we'll just take the guns away

also the truth is the only way Universal background checks can work is by doing registration cause trying to prove a guy sold a gun to another guy when you didn't know guy 1 had the gun is hard

which is why the proposed law in my state last year oked random searches of anyone's house not just gun owners but anyone's how else will they know you have no guns

and for some funny reasons a decent number of cops don't think they payed enough for that, that and they'd have to do their families houses

maybe we need to divide the nation and anties can live on one side and pro can live on the other, though i know bunch of the military will be pro and same with the sheriff's

really though i grow tied of being attacked and hearing death threats from peaceful loving anti gun people
I have never hurt anyone or plan to can't we just be left alone

What do you want me to say? I already told you that a normal rifle mag is 15-30 rounds.
