You typing words on the internet != making anything clear. That's just you typing words. The settlement is private so it's hard to say what they were trying to do. One report says it was over a million. If that's true it could be seen as avoiding the risk of a larger verdict.

Do we know that for sure?

Zimmerman said that he only responded, "I don't have a problem", when asked by Martin what his problem was. Zimmerman then said he reached for his phone and a fight began and at some point he began screaming (in his version). He told police he was afraid of Martin. The prosecutor said Zimmerman never identified himself and Ive never heard Zimmerman or anyone else say otherwise.

The man was totally unsuited for handling any kind of confrontation. And he was supposed to be the adult.

That was not established in court. Trayvon was not convicted of assault or battery. What happened to presumption of innocence?

The simple fact is that no one knows what started it off. But it's odd that Zimmerman, a "watch captain", never managed to identify himself at any time. He's incompetent at best. Which is why the HOA settled with the Martin family.

Watch do not have to ID themselves. Nor are they supposed to confront people. As you say, he also did not get the change to even try to ID himself. Thing is, it all points to Z. stepping out to see if T was still in the dark alley (he did not go into it) and was on the phone for 2 minutes, standing there talking to police dispatch. Per T's GF it was T. who confronted Z and we can see from the map and distances that T. CHOSE... repeat: CHOSE to RETURN to the alley to do so.

When its late afternoon almost night and a hoodie wearing, fully grown (@17 you do have your adult body) male that you THINK looks in his late teens (Z only guessed the age)... and he was black. You can cry me a river all you want, the truth is the great majority of violent crime is committed precisely by black males in the late teens early adulthood. The neighborhood had reported and seen black young males as the culprits of the break ins. From Z's perspective this suspicious guy comes up to him and starts a verbal confrontation, he tries to back out of it and then gets rabbit punched. Both Z's version and T's GF testimony back this up.

Besides that there's something more that it's coveniently being left out of the lights.

T went back to confront Z and ended up beating him. Besides that, he was carrying stolen goods in the backpack.

It's being said that Z profiling T as somebody suspicious was racist. But what it's avoided is that Z's profiling... was completely accurate!! !.

Greb - cite your source. This is the first I've ever even heard of Martin carrying a backpack.

Greb, he did not have a backpack on him. You're probably confusing his previous juvenile record that was shown in the media.

Like this one: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/2 ... 84652.html

Quote:
............
The Miami Herald in its Tuesday editions reported that it had obtained a Miami-Dade Schools Police Department report that showed the slain teenager was suspended in October for writing obscene graffiti on a door at his high school. During a search of his backpack, the report said, campus security officers found 12 pieces of women's jewelry, a watch and a screwdriver that they felt could be used as a burglary tool.
..............
The Herald reported that when campus security confronted Martin with the jewelry, he told them that a friend had given it to him, but he wouldn't give a name. The report said the jewelry was confiscated and a photo of it was sent to Miami-Dade Police burglary detectives.
..............
Martin had previously been suspended for excessive absences and tardiness and, at the time of his death, was serving a 10-day suspension after school officials found an empty plastic bag with marijuana traces in his backpack.

T. was not the exemplary good kid the media, the parents and the race card kindlers are portraying T.

Yeap, here there's a deeper analysis:

http://theconservativetreehouse.com/201 ... lary-tool/

The stolen jewelry episode happened a few months before.

At the same time, it looks like the report about the backpack incident was gleaned from the officer that supposedly questioned him. It isn't corroborated anywhere in the school record of his suspension, there was never an investigation, or any other indication that the alleged incident actually took place.

I'm highly skeptical, I think that was just a guy who told a story to some reporters to get his chance at fame.

Well, at least Trayvon Martin wasn't previously arrested for assaulting a police officer or had a restraining order filed against him from his ex-hoe. After all, that could - unlike something as frivolous as school suspensions - suggest that he had a tendency towards violent behaviour...

Unless, say, Trayvon was suspended for exhibiting violent behaviour - say, starting fights at school. Then that would similarly point to a tendency toward violent behaviour.

Well, of course. He had no actual position. He doesnt have to do anything. It's not a job. But a chubby little guy out playing Batman at night should have SOME skills. Being tongue-tied and "scared" didnt do him any favors even in his own version of events. He didnt control the situation verbally or physically. He probably seemed quite threatening and did nothing to defuse the situation. And that's assuming his version is accurate.

Really? She testified the following:

Quote:
He kept complaining that a man was watching him,” she said, and he described his pursuer as a “creepy ass cracker.”
She said she told him he should run — and then the call dropped out.
“I called him back. I asked him where he was,” she recounted. He told her that he was nearly back at this father’s fiancée’s house in Sanford.
“I said, ‘Keep running!’ He said he lost him,” Jeantel said.
“A couple of seconds later, he said, ‘Oh, s---! That n-----’s behind me!”
She said she could hear Martin say, “Why are you following me for?”
A “hard-breathing man” responded, “What are you doing around here?” she said.
“Then I heard ... a grass sound, And I heard Trayvon saying, ‘Get off! Get off!’ and the phone just shut off.”

Is there somewhere else where she gives George Zimmerman's version of events? Did I miss it?

Regardless, he's incompetent. Too worried about "these punks always getting away" and not enough thought given to what he would do if he confronted these mysterious "punks". Or maybe he gave it a lot of thought and this was the result he worked hard to create.

I hear a lot in the media about how Jeantel was 'humiliated,' but I was actually impressed with how calm she was, and how she kept her cool in the face of an attorney clearly trying to belittle her and her experience. I thought that she did a good job.

I felt bad for her, she has a speech impediment combined with ebonics that made her very hard to understand and came off way less intelligent than she actually is. She wasn't a credible witness tho since she admitted to lying, it seemed like all the state's star witnesses helped the defense more than they did the prosecution. There just wasn't anything there to convict Zimmerman with.

I think dantac is referring to this simon

Basically what she's saying is that Trayvon didn't intend to kill Zimmerman, just "whoop his ass". Morgan then tries to steer her into saying he was 'whooping ass' in self defense.

I seem to recall from previous discussions on SYG last year that you’re against citizen armed self-defense to start with. What I see from you here is only post-trial speculation tainted by preordained beliefs (or fears) and that’s putting it tactfully.

Rachel Jeantel was the prosecution’s star witness so it stands to reason that the defense attorneys of the accused are going to do their damndest to find holes her testimony, given what’s at stake. I have to admit that I didn’t get to watch her entire testimony or even close to half of it due to time conflicts. From what I heard from multiple sources including the media is that she got caught in a lie or two under oath which is, in effect, the blood in the water that tends to trigger a feeding frenzy for the opposing council.
