Essentially everybody else has said what I want to say , except for a few things.

I know of of no efforts or techniques used to recruit kids to the 'lifestyle of homosexuality". What would be the recruitment line for it??? "You too can live a life complicated by marginalisation and oppression???" Give me a break.

On the other hand, I can cite quite a few efforts of straight people attempting to recruit gay people to their lifestyle. --It can lead to great emotional turmoil and suicide if you're foolish enough listen, and be guilt tripped by these people.

My stake in homosexuality is the defense of the traditional family that has proven the test of time for at least 5000 years.

Funny that you should mention that, due to the fact that the the church sanctioned same sex marriages up to around AD950 or so. Some branches of the Orthodox church still do so today. Gay people have always been around, and always will be around. The only differance, is that now (at least in the west) we are standing up and declaring the same rights granted to straight people, now the we no longer have to fear being killed as 'sinners'.

Interestingly, Anna C. Salter writes, in “Predators, Pedophiles, Rapists and other Sex Offenders”, that when a man molests little girls, we call him a "pedophile" and not a "heterosexual." Of course, when a man molests little boys, people say outright, or mutter under their breath, "homosexual. Herek writes that because of our society's aversion to male homosexuality, and the attempts made by some to represent gay men as a danger to "family values," many in our society immediately think of male-male molestation as homosexuality. He compares this with the time when African Americans were often falsely accused of raping white women, and when medieval Jews were accused of murdering Christian babies in ritual sacrifices. Both are examples of how mainstream society eagerly jumped to conclusions to that justified discrimination and violence against these minorities. Today, gays face the same kind of prejudice. Most recently, we've seen gay men unfairly turned out of the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of this myth that gay men are likely to be child molesters. Keeping gays out of scouting won't protect boys from pedophiles.

Pedophilia and Homosexuality are wholly unrelated. A Pedophile is attracted to CHILDREN. A Homosexual is attracted to ADULTS OF THE SAME SEX. I would like to point at that when I googled this, the ONLY sites which came up with any positive-correlation links were RELIGIOUS sites. Gee, wonder why that is?...

Sean, you are deliciously deluded and are dangerously nearing that all too funny stereotype of the Ultra-Conservative, Ultra-Christian, Homophobe. I'm no longer frustrated by such comments. Now I'm just laughing and shaking my head.

And I'm still waiting for Descartes to prove the existance of God without using a circular argument...

I forgot to address this question earlier.
No, I do not have anything against very feminine women. They do not act like Richard Simmons.

Most gay men don't act like Richard Simmons either. Being an annoying person has nothing to do with your sexuality.

I have a question for you, Sean. How many gay men do you actually know?

I've met a lot of gay guys, and granted while a good few of them have more feminine qualities than most heterosexual men, I have met NO ONE who acts like Richard Simmons.

Richard Simmons acts like that because he's INSANE. And probably REALLY intensely ADHD. And he is also lost in the 80s.

Sophist,

You can debate opinion but no attacks on the other debating party.

Thank You

Yeah, the level of straight hate and heterophobia is indicative of just how 'fair' and 'tolerant' homosexuals and their supporters really are. I think almost everyone who doesn't agree with them has been personally attacked.

I also find attacks on a 'class' or 'education' level tasteless and offensive and just plain wrong. I have a BA which was done at a time when a bachelors degree was quite demanding, ie 24 subjects, not the current 18 (in Australia, anyway). Some of the stupidest people I have ever known have degrees and some of the smartest left school as soon as possible.

Since I studied and worked in arts/media and used to live in inner city areas, I've known and worked with plenty of homosexuals. I attended a left wing university faculty.

I've known more than I can give you a number for. I aways seemed to have problems with them even before they came out of the closet or learned that they were gay. You see, my dislike of homosexuality is more than just theoretical.

Vertivert,

When this thread was formed, it was discussed with the other moderators whether it should be kept open or if we should kill it quickly. We decided that it should be kept open because it is a topic of debate and if we killed it, another similar topic would take its place anyways.

As far as homophobia, there is a difference between debating an opinion and threatening a group of people. The persons that have done the later in this thread have been dealt with in accordance to the moderators guidelines and of moderator discussion (with persons who would be biased recusing themselves) as to how to best deal with the problem. As far as the former, the opinions will come out anyways and a good debate is healthy for all those involved.

thank you, again. and i absolutely agree with your post (unsurprisingly).

i was merely curious as to why - in your original post - you implied that mods who WERE giving their opinions wouldn't be keeping an eye on the thread. my point was that bias (perceived or otherwise) within the mods wouldn't be relevant, as the rules are there to be act as guidelines for mods' actions whether or not any individual mod agrees with it or not. as i see it, there CAN be a difference between personal and "professional", i.e., that one has one's moderator hat on to act as a moderator, and one's individual hat on when one isn't. it's possible to act in either capactity, even if there is some dichotomy, as long as it's made clear to everyone which it is.

perhaps this is the wrong place for this debate, so i'm happy if anyone wants this split off into another thread.

I take it the fact that some of us are gay too eludes you?

So aside from the religious aspect of your opinion, you base you dislike of gay people on the actions and behavior of a few indiduals, coupled with the way that they treated you?
