Sean, my apologies. My comment was uncalled for.

ljbouchard, I find unresearched association of homosexuality with just about EVERY paraphilia in the book insulting. A hidden insult, but insulting. I wish you would take note of that as well. It doesn't make my comment good form, but nevertheless not the first punch, so to speak.

So aside from the religious aspect of your opinion, you base you dislike of gay people on the actions and behavior of a few indiduals, coupled with the way that they treated you?

Not just a few. I experienced the most vicious hatred and envy of women from male homosexuals. I regard drag as evidence of that hysterical hatred and envy. I rarely ever met male homosexuals who didn't have a 'mummy' problem - either loving or hating mummy too much.

I think that there are similarities between homosexuality and AS only inasmuch that both of them are partly biological and involve a mixup in the wiring of the brain. I therefore think as long as neither group are harming anyone or forcing their way of life on anyone they should be left to get on with their business without any hassle. I dont however think that gay people should be allowed to adopt in most cases because of the discrimination that the adopted will recieve in school etc. On the streets gays arent totally accepted yet so it isnt right to put vulnerable children in that atmosphere.

Apology accepted Sophist.

I wish I could find the sources, but I once heard a news aricle about a Psychiatrist that took a group of homosexuals and a group of heterosexuals and switched their sexuality.

The "recovery" cult. You won't find a single peer reviewed journal that will back it. Usually the reports are from baptist colleges.

The recidivism rate is incredeble. The founder of the "Ex gay" movement has even repudiated it and went back to his natural sex drive.

Yeah - I can't see coerced/enforced denial lasting very long...

IMO if God created all types of people in all kinds of ways that can also lead them way to the left or right of christianity just as much as create them with natural urges that go against it either one of two things is probably true: either he doesn't exist or the truth of god and our existence is much less binary than modern day christianity and historical christianity tried to push (ie. life being only about one scheme - heaven and hell, and in such a way that didn't realistically allow for those who found perfect harmony outside that narrow channel, even without 'sinning').

IMo we're too diverse, have too many cultures, to many ways, and too many dimensions for everything to have been meant to funnel down into something as narrow and one-dimensional as christianity seems to imply.

HOW ??? i am completely boggled. forced into having sexual relations with someone? dressed in drag/really straight clothes, which are superglued on? surgery performed so that they had to mince instead of stride manfully, and vice versa? (i have my tongue firmly in my cheek, when using these stereotypes, by the way, but they seem to be at about the same level of this particular bit of the discussion).

blimey - i wonder how you and i would get on with HAVING to be gay for a period of time, sean. fascinating stuff... 8O

oh, hang on...

i seem to remember there was some work done, ages ago, where gay men were subjected to "treatment" to "cure" them of their "inversion". electrical probes were attached to their genitals. then they were shown pictures likely to cause sexual arousal in "inverts" (as they were called then), and given an electric shock as each picture was shown. (sorry, those of the male persuasion - i can see you wincing).

it didn't work. this rather suggests that it isn't actually a choice, does it not?

another thing which has occurred to me is that the discussion here is centred on gay men. are lesbians exempt fromall this, then? or are they still abominations? i ask, as there is no law in the UK regarding the sexual activities of lesbians (e.g. age of consent) as Queen Victoria refused to believe that such activity went on, and would not accept the need for any such provision in the Act (of Parliament, i should say).

no idea - this is millions of years ago. it was in a psychology text book, but the wretched thing came out in the early 70s or something, and so was so outdated that i chucked it out.

Laws are never as harsh on Lesbians because men think two women together are hot .

But they will steal your children if they can. :(

Trouble is, if you didn't chose to be gay then they cant feel good about beating you up for Jesus. If they had to face the facts instead of trying to perpetrate the lie that everyone gay is a "child mollestor" and see them as people. most of whom want the same things everyone else does then the 15 minute hate wouldnt be fun anymore..

And they can't do that. if you were born gay then the god who they think made everything must have made you that way, therefore they are intolerant jackasses. So us sinful evil queers must choose to be gay to "defy god" and the goodly christbots can feel great about "putting us in our place"
with violence, propaganda and a constitutionally enforced second class citizen status..........

Yeah, on another forums I've been to, this immature kid who everyone hated posted in a gay rights topic about how he hates gays, and then someone asks him about lesbians and he doesnt have a problem with them because theyre hot.

That's BS double standards for you.
