I was not thinking of what you might think of me at all. That is simply what I would think about myself if I were to knowingly continue making serves that were being returned with non-edifying comments about others.

No problem. I wouldn't want you to decrease your personal opinion of yourself. Merely stop communicating with me. I certainly would not want to exert any evil influences on you.

I see what I expected to happen, is exactly what happened. I enjoyed the responses, but my qeustion was if it is a sin for a living being to kill another living being. Not once do I recall mentioning a human being in particular. ;)

The word "sin" involves some sort of religious dogmatism. One cannot be alive and not continuously kill all sorts of living organisms trying to invade you and have lunch. If you choose not to specify humans then you will have to be more specific.

It just makes me think, are humans the only ones affected by the "rules" of religion? "God" created humans and all other animals, correct? Yet humans are the only ones who must follow the 10 Commandments, and what not, and the only ones to whom sin applies. This seems highly elitist to me...
My not being specific is half the point. ;)

I'm sure that you have your own convictions. I have mine. No god created either humans or other kinds of animals. Proteins reproduced and tangled with each other and the environment and did whatever they had to to survive and reproduce. Religions were conceived a mere several thousand or so years ago which is a mere instant in evolutionary development and have little relation to reality.

Can we take “religion” out of the picture for a moment?

So it seems to some people.

With “religion” out of the picture for the moment: No. Everything and everyone on earth is in some way affected by natural laws or “rules” like gravity and like those affecting and/or effecting life as we know it. Then, even animals have “rules” for their interactions ... such as a mama cat slapping a kitten to let it know not to play so rough.

But among us, rules are written down lest we forget or ignore them altogether. Then, religion comes into play where we do not like them and/or believe we actually know better.

Maybe I should have been more specific after all. I am an Atheist, and believe what I believe, yet I won't believe in something that is not fact. I just wanted to know what those who are religious would have to say. Also, the quotation marks were put around the word god to keep from getting responses such as I received, but cest la vie...
And Sand, I agree with you 100%, but I want to know from people who have read the bible, what exactly must kill what, for it to be considered a sin, and if it is only Human to sin, then why?

If you are an atheist you don't believe what you don't believe. Atheism is a purely negative position, the refusal to believe in the existence of God, the gods or other supernatural beings.

The definite assertion that God, the gods or other supernatural beings do not exist, has the same weakness as asserting that God, the gods or other supernatural beings do exist. To wit, it has the weakness of empirical non-testability or decidability. How does one "prove" that supernatural beings do not exist?

Once again I must correct myself. I simply wasn't paying attention this time. I am Agnostic, which means I'm open to ideas, but doubtful. I still like cold hard fact over faith any day.
We prove the supernatural does not exist in the same way we prove it does exist. We don't. The only thing I know for sure is that I don't know for sure, and we never will.

Now I feel mighty hypocritical, speaking of religion then saying I'm an Athiest, and then saying I'm Agnostic. Only of these is true, however. I am agnostic. Sorry...

Rhetorically: And how might anyone be factually "sure" of that speculation apart from faith in whatever?

Fact: Living by faith is absolutely inescapable!

That delusion ensures security is, of course, delusion.

Do I detect an enthusiasm for ignorance and stupidity?

I find the moral worth of the bible to be very small indeed.

I do not know what you detect or how you might perceive whatever shows on your meter!

Delusion is to live in a lie, and my life has yet to be shown false.

Do I detect contempt for any who believe different from oneself?
