I really like that comment, and I don't know if it is universal, but I personally like it and agree with it in my own case.

So, you are saying that 99% of Sand's comments should be ignored? :P

They mostly are. But the argument about my making fun of IAMNOTAPARAKEET for that name as being an attack seems to me to be pushing things too far. It has, of course the ring of Nixon's denial that he was not a crook and by that attains a highly comic aspect but to argue that my doubts were anything but a joke or that people would take seriously that he actually is a parakeet confirms my suspicions that there are some rather peculiar individuals here.

I wasn't alive to see Nixon. I've worked for the Weyland-Yutani company though.

At the time when I came up with the username, it was a few months after I had lost my job at Wal-Mart and at that time I had 3 Cockatiels and 2 Parakeets,

The parakeets, particularly Pepperoncini, would be bossy to the cockatiels and bite their feet and threaten them. I consider management to be like parakeets.

Fine. I have a sparrow that I raised from a baby that fell from its nest. He's 5 years old.

His name is Humphrey since he would have died if I had not raised him and now he is home free.

This is how he looked when I found him.

That's pretty cool. My family once took care of a baby grackle who fell out of the nest. Alice was with us for a few months, and we tried to let her go, bringing her outside, but she'd come back to us... I wish she had left though, as it was our fault she died... she choked on some rice we gave her. My dad tried to perform a type of CPR for the poor little bird, but it was too late then. I think that was back in 97.

Humphrey is a cute little guy. That face says, "What are ya doin'? feed me!"

I've raised crows, seagulls, and all sorts of other animals. At the moment I'm trying to get over 200 wild ducks through this bad winter. It's an expensive business.

I raised a crow once - it was a really great bird. I released it outside once it fledged, but it would always come back to me when I called and I kept on feeding it until it no longer seemed to want food from me. Then I went off to a week of summer camp, and when I came back it was gone; I hope that it moved on and joined the wild crows.

Sand - I know generalizations are dangerous; that's why I'm always very careful to state that they're just generalizations up front. I do think that some of the facets of online culture come from the geekiness (or aspiness) of many of the early adopters of computer technology. Personally, I haven't followed you but I generally like reading your posts and haven't been offended by anything you've written.

Although I admire a good deal of your solid understanding of basic reality your hatred of people in general and concept that they are basically crooks out to get you is a bit too paranoid for my taste. No question you have an excellent capability for offense. Your total and almost violent dislike of all government activity bespeaks of a rather distorted view of all civilization. Much of what you say in the matter has a good basis but from a rather fixed and unnecessarily dismal viewpoint.

As a former New Yorker I am quite familiar with New Jersey and aware that the local government quite possibly conforms to his concept of governments in general. And, of course, the US federal government with its total nincompoops in both the judicial and legislative branches is not far off the mark either. Nevertheless it is the only official structure with some regard to general citizen control. Whether there is any light at the end of that long and circuitous tunnel is doubtful. It takes what has been discussed as a leap of faith. Certainly logic can only render dismal conclusions.
