True. I was typing from an idiosyncratic perspective where no Aspie stoops to such tactics as conniving political ones. Reality might be different. I still don't like thinking of Aspies as political.

Without debating politics there would be no policy, and a poorer society.

On the other hand
Gordon Brown and "bigoted woman" -> 551,000 hits
Gordon Brown and "autism policy" -> 74 hits

Why do you folks hold your elections on a Thursday in May, instead of a Tuesday in November, the way God intended elections to be held?

Possibly more of a psychopath than ASD.

Psychopaths have very convicning superficial charm. Gordon Brown does not - he's quite anti-telegenic (I bet if he as telegenic and charismatic, he could easily blow of "bigotgate").

David Cameron fits more closely to the psychopathic archetype.

As for Brown, while I don't think he fits on the Autistic Spectrum, he certainly has rough edges around his personality (inner-driven, intolerant of dissent, and social awkwardness) that resemble - very loosely - Asperger's traits.

Are you saying that Anglo-American political media, in their intensive attempts to fetishize gaffes and statements over real issues, are obscuring a real issue in Britian?

The Times Online, in a typical act of fact free editorializing, has thrown into the sewage system know as the British political media a speculation that Brown may have some mental disorder.

Personally, would you rather have a politician who "bullies" (forcefully advocates their principles) or one with a relentlessly concessionary personality (i.e. Obama)?

On an earlier note, a Tory MP got into trouble for comments conducive to the proposition that Gordon Brown is "slightly autistic" back in 2006.

Quote:
The shadow chancellor, who denied the charge, was criticised by the National Autistic Society after a light hearted exchange at a Tory fringe meeting.

Mr Osborne had been recalling his ability to retain odd facts, when the journalist hosting the event joked he might have been "faintly autistic".

For Mr. Osborne's credit, some members of Wrong Planet have made greater stretches in reasoning.

I think I'd go for the relentlessly concessionary personality - given that most politicians' ideas are about redistribiting wealth into the pockets of the wealthy, it'd be comforting to know that a bit of remonstrating might soften the blow. That's why I'm hoping for a hung parliament - with a little luck, without a dependable working majority they'll be too scared to bring on those savage cuts quite so quickly.

I agree. It is the best result for us, particularly in these current circumstances. The only parties who disagree are those who think they are in with a chance of achieving a majority result so they can do what they like.

If there's a hung parliament, the Digital Economy Act might get repealed, so that aspect is good I guess.

On the subject of redistributing wealth, I disagree with it. This isn't communism, it's a capitilist society.

Brown is unlikely to be on the autism scale at all. I doubt anyone successful in politics has ever been formally diagnosed with autism. From what I read on Brown, his personal self is completely different from the personality on camera.

The media and Conservative party are unlikely to be drawing upon any official diagnosis, heck I doubt George Osborne or the Times editor even knows what Aspergers actually is, they appear to be mistaking anyone who isn't easy on camera as being autistic. The only person whose opinion I'd trust on this would be a qualified psychologist basing their opinion on meeting Brown in person and not based off his public persona.

That said, I doubt Mark Lawson or Armando Iannucci have Aspergers. Having a stable monotonous voice or "speaking quickly" alone means nothing.
