I was thinking about this, except in the opposite direction. I was recently on short-term disability, but am back to working part time. Only problem is I'm out of FMLA so I would have to get approved for non-FMLA leave. That could leave me without a job, but I don't know if I'd be able to cross that gap to qualification from assistance; I'm afraid for my future, because I have become so reclusive I don't think I could acquire another job.

a universal backstop security income for every citizen should be the #1 goal of this nation for its people.

I could see the poor and disabled taking up their pitchforks and lynching those responsible for taking away their only way of life in an reenactment of both the French and Russian Revolutions.

The point of this exercise is to show that if government support were withdrawn at a sufficiently gradual pace, the private economy would pick up the slack if for no other reason than preventing revolution and riot. The difference would be this: any help the poor or disadvantaged get is NOT considered as a right, but a privilege granted by generous folk. This notion is of course, anethema to the liberals who believe that people have a RIGHT to have their needs fulfilled by the labor of others. Of course it never occurs to these liberals that the others who must bear the burden by force of law are enslaved by the process. The government has created a DUTY out of thin air. The duty to satisfy the needs of others.

I've locked the thread as it is four years old and some of the posters responded to no longer participate on this site. The quote tree has also been broken with posts attributed to the wrong members. If anyone wants to discuss the topic, feel free to create a fresh version of the thread.
