I have a confession to make, Corvus. I'm not motivated to debate right now, which is why I'm merely making sarcastic, demeaning comments.

If you think all I'm capable of is throwing around insults, go track down one of the topics where I laid out an anti-Semitist or Holocaust denier.

The reason I don't care to debate you is because too much of what you're saying, I either do agree with, or would like to agree with. For example - the West's oil dependance. It irks me that you portray it as "being soft and greedy", but hell, that's just words, and you're right, we'd be much better off devoting some of the money we spent in Iraq to finding a solution. We have solutions on the tips of our fingers. Hemp oil works but is far too expensive, ethanol works but is a pollution nightmare like leaded gasoline could only dream of being... but we're close.

The thing is, saying we're greedy so we need to cut consumption now, isn't going to cut it. Turning out all the lights and electricity save for your computer is nice, but it's barely a blip on the scale. The citizens of any country aren't going to stand for brownouts either.

But what I don't agree with you on is the Bush = War Criminal routine. And the reason that routine always pisses me off is because it's everything I hate about the Democrats/The Left. I've said before and will say again probably, I _AM_ a leftist. I am left of center in just about everything. But I also want what is best for me, and for my country (which I am proud of). And the Left doesn't want that - they want to punish Bush, and they have had "tolerance must be unconditional" beaten into their heads so hard that they can't, or won't, see Islam for the threat it is.

Fair enough on the debate. Last night, I felt the same.

Me cutting out my electricity consumption is merely an example and you're right, not a blip on the scale. Thats because I'm part of the VERY VERY few that do, thats why! Its not ME, its everyone else wasting energy. In Canada, its stated about 5 tons of energy is used on average per person. I took the test and I scored 1.5-2 tons! The point of this was that everyone was to cut '1' ton of energy, each, from their average. I'm way below the average and my goal is ANOTHER ton? Look, I do my part, I don't just 'talk' about what I think, I DO what I think.

As for the 'left versus right.' You can sucker me in and call me whatever side you want to but in my world, there are no sides. Only wrong and wrong. Me, I'm libertarian, quite frankly, the whole idea of 'Government' sounded good but its yet to work effectively because all people want is different from what OTHERS want. I know that you cannot make everyone happy so the best route is to make NO one happy (the alternative is creating 'prejudices' with each passing 'bill'). Heaven forbid, my belief is that people should help themselves but they think differently, they think the government should provide them with everything there heart desires.

I dont view Bush from a political side, I view him from an 'observational' side, a side that doesnt exist. In Mortal Kombat terms, I'm nothing more then 'Noob Saibot' or whatever his name was, he didn't 'partake in the event' but rather made sure everything was fair on BOTH sides. Again, sucker me in and call me leftist, righty, whatever, but you're calling me that from YOUR view, NOT mine. You're fitting it into YOUR opinions - there is nothing 'left' or 'right' about the truth. The truth is, Bush doesn't give a s**t about America, if he did, 80 billion would go towards its own country in areas like 'poor' or 'education' or 'health' but instead, its 'rebuilding a nation' (an OIL nation at that, one that HAS money). But hey, whats good for the people, right? Even if parts of America are comparable to the poorest nations of Africa.

Islam isn't the threat anymore than christianity, it's when people take their religions to the extremes that they become dangerous. Muslims and Christians both do this ALOT. But the extremists don't represent every christian or every muslim. There are good muslims too.
I mean you have to put yourself in their situation. How would you feel if everyone accused you of being a terrorist because your white, or christian, due to Eric Rudolph, or Timothy McVeigh?

Being that I am called regularly on these forums a bigot, a racist, and a jingoist when I'm none of the three... well, maybe a little bit of a jingoist... I can say with some authority that being prejudged by heritage sucks.

The primary difference between Christianity and Islam, is that in the nations where Christianity is dominant, there are laws of all sorts designed to prevent religious radicalism from becoming a threat. Fred Phelps is marginalized, forced to live in a walled compound. Pat Robertson shames himself out of politics. Even if you believe that Bush is attempting to install a theocracy, he hasn't come anywhere near close enough to compare to nations like Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Phelps would make a fine Al-Sadr. But under US law he never will become one.

I imagined they did. Well the first part still stands, most are greedy. More is never enough to many people (yet they dont understand the logic)

You guys do realize that we (U.S.A.) had NOTHING to do with his hanging? We found Saddam, and handed him over to the Iraqis. THEY held trial, and THEY disposed of him.

that's right, because your country has absolutely no influence over iraq whatsoever.

Yikes, if America did nothing, NONE of anything would have happened. U.S.A. has everything to do with it

What? Are you saying that we jacked the trails, and 'forced' the hanging.

Wow, I'm surprised you figured this out so soon. And here we are, thinking that all the political leaders of the WORLD won't figure it out. But lo and behold, you did. Thou art genius.

Oh wait. Thats not true.

If we 'stole' the election, how come no one else confronted us? We aren't all powerful. Especially now. We're at a state of such moral, economical, and political corruption, that the reference to the Ottoman Empire is becoming more and more relevant. We're slowly collapsing into ourself. If the other countries wanted to stop us, they would have by now. We could hold off two, maybe three other countries, but more than that, we'd be wiped out.

So yes, of course we would risk everything by fixing an election in a country HALF WAY AROUND THE WORLD, just to rid our selfs of a dictator. THEY wanted it, and THEY killed him.
