Yes they f****d up their opportunity to build an independent nation, an opportunity they didn't have before, not under the British, Ottomans, Byzantines, Romans, etc. I'd be they would love to even get a fraction of the opportunity back.
Gaza isn't a viable nation true, but they have to take some of the responsibility for why that is.
There is also quite a lot of fairly open space in Gaza that could be built on.
Why don't Hamas et al fire their rockets from there instead of deliberately harming their own?
.
If you take the time, as i have done, to listen to testimonies from people who have actually been there, particularly since the beginning of operation protective shield the common denominator in what they say is that there is nowhere left, nowhere vaguely habitable at the very least, that is not a densely popuated area. Gaza has a population of 1.8 million and is 25 by 4 miles across. During the Israeli offensives, over forty percent of that land was out of bounds to evacuees. Where on earth do you envisage fighters firing back from an area that is not 'well populated'? Such areas simply do not exist.
Oh and Israeli troops did make flagrant disregards for civillian safety. The UNHRC hospital for instance, that was struck, sent seventeen messages to the Israeli front line imploring them not to strike but they did anyway. Meanwhile we have IDF snipers on twitter boasting about how they 'sent 13 muslim children to hell'.
As for building on land, as i said to human-naut you need raw materials. You can't simply build out of thin air.

Have you indeed? Which Gazans have you spoken to? Going from your posturing not too many, otherwise they would probably have given you a beat down.
Dear Gaza,
NOW is the time. Turn to your brother state Lebanon, use them as a model, and become like them. Think of them as a twin brother of sorts. It is destined to happen anyway. Why prolong this suffering?
They will inevitably end up there anyway so quit prolonging agony and get 'er done already!
I try to help them see this reality.

Why would they give me a beat down? I haven't done anything but offer them valuable truth. I have told them to wake up and live. Right now they are the living dead.

Lebanon isn't besieged and encased from all directions by a malignant muslim brotherhood government on one side and a fundamentally anti-arab government on the other that would prefer they didn't exist.
Lebanon is permitted to use its own airports and seaports. Its imports, exports and movement of people aren't dictated by another country.
In what way is the situation of Gaza even mildly comparable to Lebanon?
You try going to Gaza and see how well your 'valuable truth' is recieved.
While you're there, try seeing how well your preconceptions pass muster when put against the actual reality.
Its amazing how western Israel apologists who have never been to the region in their lives think they know the Gazans situation better than the Gazans. Its the height of arrogance.
I can't believe you cannot see the potential, Thomas. Like most religious fanatics, Hamas sees no life, only death. It is unfortunate they take so many to their graves. They must try to make the best of it. Lebanon fought a bloody war and then what? They abandoned that slow, agonizingly painful death for life. They chose life and now what is it they have? Beirut is a beautiful, triumphant city far too valuable to the inhabitants to risk over such foolishness. Gaza needs to reach this realization about their situation. They need to work toward what Lebanon has now. Yes, they are comparable to that country and could be like it if they made it their goal. So far that isn't their goal at all and they continually suffer the consequences. Lebanon could be their role model in this if they would just let it happen.
Think about it, Thomas. Gaza can try to reach that goal now or they can suffer for 500 more years and then reach that goal. Which is the best option? I vote they should do it now and save themselves the anguish because it is just going to happen anyway. What I say reeks of truth and life for them instead of lies and death.

I do think sometimes you're deliberately obtuse. The Gazans have had tonnes of aid, some of it *from the Israelis*. Unfortunately much of it was stolen by the thug overlords you celebrate and used for war materiel.
The Israelis have also proposed paying, themselves, to move civilians out of the way for the duration of the fighting (which won't last long) and then aiding rebuilding once Hamas is wiped out. I have never heard of any other nation offering to *move its own enemies' civilians to safety during war, and to promise help in advance for reconstruction*. Hamas has already jumped all over the offer and told its people the Israelis are trying to round them up into Nazi death camps, so that's helpful.
It's an interesting fight in that this is, I think, the first time the West's had a serious eyeful of Hamas behavior and how deeply stupid and unreasonable it is, how resistant to peace. The media this time around have been quite pro-Palestine, the result of two decades' campus activity in the US and rising antisemitism in Europe, but the longer this awfulness drags on, the more inside-the-territory-and-Israel reporting goes on...and the more obvious it becomes to the public that Israelis may be brusque and unpleasant, but Hamas is simply about picking stupid fights and endangering its own people for the sake of deathwish glory, and can't be negotiated with. And that in the end the Israelis are actually doing every sensible thing there is to do, and handling next-door terrorism from lunatics remarkably calmly. Also that the real victims in all of this are the Palestinians who wanted nothing at all to do with Hamas or jihad and just wanted to get on with life. I think that in the end, only committed socialist-party-line types will be out there shouting at Israel.

Not at all. I'm just making a comparison between the region in question and the situation in Gaza where homosexuals are tortured and killed by the Palestinians. A clip from Hamas' official TV station:

Gay Palestinian men flee to Israel because they are not safe in the West Bank and Gaza. They also have no place else to go. ?Israel is close and far at the same time,? says Haneen Maikey, a gay rights activist with Jerusalem Open House, one of the principal gay rights organizations in Israel. If the sexuality of a gay man in Palestine is exposed, his family might torture or kill him and the police will turn a blind eye.

There is something disconcerting about relying on the pleasant treatment of one group to validate the persecution of another. Saying that Israeli persecution of the Palestinians is somehow 'cancelled out' because of their track record on LGBT rights is like saying the guilt of the nazis is diminished because of the role they played in assisting Chinese refugees from Japanese occupied Nanking.
In all fairness, it was just one German Nazi who had helped Chinese refugees against the Japanese at Nanking - John Raabe. And when he had begged Hitler to rein in his ally, Japan, this man of conscience had been recalled to Germany, jailed by the Gestapo, and his documentation on Japanese atrocities seized.
