I think Ali had a sort of golden aura about him that protected him and allowed him to blossom.

This is how I think all historical figures should be viewed.

Pardon me, I never speak ill of the dead, but is this a RIP Ali thread or are we going to discuss the real reason that the OP made the thread?

There is a double standard when it comes to whites and blacks and racism.

Absolutely. And it annoys the hell out of me. ANYONE can be a racist, it doesn't matter if you're white, black, Asian, aboriginal, hispanic, etc.

Finally someone who isn't afraid to acknowledge the truth. Everyone else just seems to want to ignore the topic like it's the Plague. Thank you for being man enough to say that there is a problem. Everyone else just seems to want to turn their head when someone who is respected in society is being offensive. If it's OK for Ali to say the things he said, then it should be OK for any other man to say the same things without being ostracized - but that didn't happen here with Hulk Hogan and yet only one man (you) has said something while the rest have said nothing. That's how people's rights get taken away - when no one speaks up after seeing something is not right - like how Hulk Hogan got everything stripped from him just by voicing his opinions on race. Anyone who thinks what happened here is not a problem is racist against whites, imo.

Another thing, this has nothing to do with what happened back in the 1800's. We are in 2016 now with a whole bunch of new problems. This is definitely not history repeating itself.

Don't you think that people who have had their rights taken away before and know what it feels like should be the first ones to speak up so that it doesn't happen again to them or anyone else?

I just believe in equal rights - Ali has a right to his beliefs and Hulk Hogan should be able to as well, whether they are racist beliefs or not. I don't ever want history to repeat itself, but thinking more about it that is exactly what appears to be happening except there's a color change. If you're white, you better "check your privilege".

Racism, by anybody, of whatever ethnicity, race, or whatever, should never be tolerated.

Muhammad Ali was roundly criticized for his racist statements.

It is true: no Vietcong ever called him the "N" word. I love that quote.

He went through his crap for not going into the army. He served his time, so to speak.

Had he lacked credibility, I don't think he would have been embraced later in life--after the late 1960s.
