And they take it very literally, compared to us.

Johan Galtung, who in 1980 forecasted the fall of the Soviet Empire by 1990 (which fell in 1989, leading to the collapse of the USSR itself in 1991), in 2000 predicted the fall of the US Empire by 2025, moving it up to 2020 after Bush's election. He still stands by his prediction, though of course he would like to see what Trump actually does. He mentions 15 contradictions in the Empire which will lead to its collapse globally, and possibly domestically, though perhaps the Republic will survive.

His 1980 prediction for the Soviet Empire's collapse brought up 5 contradictions in Soviet society:

Quote:
In the case of the USSR, the main structural contradictions were as follows: the working class was increasingly repressed and unable to self-organise through trade unions (ironic given the country’s Communist pretensions); the wealthier ‘bourgeoisie’ or elite had money to spend, but nothing to buy from domestic production, leading to economic stagnation; Russian intellectuals wanted more freedom of expression; minorities wanted more autonomy; and peasants wanted more freedom of movement

http://motherboard.vice.com/read/us-pow ... t-collapse

Some of the contradictions in American society:

Quote:
Among the 15 structural contradictions his model identifies as driving the decline, are:

* economic contradictions such as ‘overproduction relative to demand’, unemployment and the increasing costs of climate change;
* military contradictions including rising tensions between the US, NATO, and its military allies, along with the increasing economic unsustainability of war;
* political contradictions including the conflicting roles of the US, UN and EU;
* cultural contradictions including tensions between US Judeo-Christianity, Islam, and other minorities;
* and social contradictions encompassing the increasing gulf between the so-called ‘American Dream’, the belief that everyone can prosper in America through hard work, and the reality of American life (the fact that more and more people can’t).

We are likely to get a quasi-fascist era in the next few years before the collapse, resulting from these factors:

Quote:
He argued that American fascism would come from a capacity for tremendous global violence; a vision of American exceptionalism as the “fittest nation”; a belief in a coming final war between good and evil; a cult of the strong state leading the fight of good against evil; and a cult of the “strong leader”.

A very interesting idea. I've ordered his 2009 book from Transcend University, because it's hard to find, and will post about it when I get it.

So you'll have to move most the population of Salem, euene, and Portland to Canada. I'm so tired of Oregon being pretreated as a soldi liberal state it's a purple state that slight majority votes democrat

If it makes you feel any better, I've seen a bunch of "Jesusland" maps that included Alberta and Saskatchewan in Jesusland. I know Alberta has a reputation for being more conservative than the rest of Canada, but we're nothing compared to the more conservative parts of the US. Hell, we voted in the NDP during our last provincial election, and as for Saskatchewan, they have a long history of providing comprehensive social programs. We may seem conservative compared to BC or Ontario, but we're still pretty liberal.

Trust me, even here on the conservative east side of Washington, there's plenty of us liberals here.

Just like I'm sure there a bunch of conservatives in Seattle
Slight majority deciding oregon should join liberal land will lead to the rest of Oregon seceding. Half of oregon likes our guns and freedom and don't want to live in a totalitarian country who controls everything we do.

Who says everything would be under totalitarian control?

Also, one needs to keep in mind that there are different factions within the two main parties. Plus you have to factor in independents, Libertarians, Greens, etc., so dividing along political lines would be quite messy.

And there are regional differences with the two parties. A New England Republican is not the same as a Southern Republican. A California Democrat is not the same as a West Virginia Democrat.

For example, Texas and Maine both have Republican governors, and at least one GOP senator (TX has 2 GOPers, ME has 1 GOPer, 1 independent). Even though they are of the same party, I would say that Ted Cruz and Susan Collins are light years away ideologically. If only ME would kick LePage to the curb... Plus Massachusetts has Charlie Baker, a rather well-liked GOP governor, and Vermont, home of Bernie Sanders, swore in a Phil Scott, a Republican, just yesterday.

On the Democratic side, Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Joe Manchin, from California and West Virginia, respectively, are examples of two people from different factions of that party.

I would hate living in either of those countries. I don't want to be ruled by left wing SJWs and I don't want to be ruled by right wing Jesus freaks. Both are equally as bad!

This is a map of what America will look like after Civil War II.

Love maps. And love historic and antique maps.

Where did you find that?

I love it!

Its dated 1937. Its looks like that vintage.

It depicts "political boundries,and major Zeppelin routes".

But its definitely some kind of political satire of the time, because its fanciful by both that time and now.

I wonder who made it, and why.

On a satirical level some of the redrawings still make sense. I like how he lumps the Canadian Maritime provinces with upper New England into one country. Joel Garreu's best selling "The Nine Nations of North America" of 1981 made a similar slicing of the pie.

Other details are puzzling. Like the northern Prairie states (from Kansas to the border of Dakota and Canada) are labeled "the People's Collective" as if they were destined to become one big pinko commie commune. There was a lot of socialist thinking is some parts of the midwest, and Milwaukee even had a socialist mayor. But then and now the northern prarie states are considered part of the Bible Belt, and tend to vote GOP.

But I agee with the map maker about one thing! America should go back to Zeppelins. Non flammable helium filled (not hydrogen like the Hindenburg) and powered by solar cells. It would get us off middle east oil, and if you hijacked a zeppelin and flew it into a skyscraper it would just bounce off like a nerf ball! So what if they only go a 100 mph? Our lifestyle could use a little slowing down.

That's from video game series on PC and Xbox called Crimson Skies.

It's an alternate history story in which the United States split after World War I. It's a really fun game if you like engaging in dog fights with old prop planes and zeppelins.

I'd love to see the zeppelins return! I feared the global shortage of helium would make this impossible. However, it looks like the shortage of helium was exaggerated :D

You might want to take note that the NDP at least appears to have anti-gun leanings and there are a hell of a lot of gun owners in Alberta. I know there was and still is a lot of disgruntlement over the High River incident a few years ago. All other issues aside, I'd be leery of them on the gun issue.
Just sayin....

I didn't vote NDP in the provincial election, in fact I actually voted for the PCs because I didn't see anything wrong with how they were running the province. I did vote for the NDP during the last federal election however, since they were the only party that took a stand against the TPP. Unfortunately, everyone voted for the f*****g Liberals because Justin Trudeau promised to legalize marijuana. Legalizing pot is nice and all, but there's more important things to be concerned about.

I enjoy a good doobie just as much as the next guy but not if I have to have Trudeau just to get it. By TPP I assume you mean Trans Pacific Partnership and not the Toilet Paper Party. :P
I don't have a good feeling about the TPP myself...
