Man, this thread should be moved to PPR; but, I'll add a comment here:

"Trump cult". Fact: The media has been almost completely negative about all things Trump since before the election. 24/7. The media would say that it's a reflection of society. This would mean that any "Trump cult" out there would be statistically insignificant, right? If not, wouldn't that mean the media is not entirely correct? Makes one think.

I found out that ABC got caught posting a fake video of bombings in Syria. Would not be the first time that the media got caught lying to the public.

And yet Trump lies about s**t all the time AND he's cruel and abusive towards people. Always has been from the start. I mean just read anything he posts on Twitter, the news clearly aint lying about his tweets if he's the one actually posting this crap.

Trump vs The Pess is like evil vs evil. :|

Trump has convinced his followers that the media does nothing but lie, and they keep proving him right. But he himself is not a very nice person.

That's what I find so scary about all this. :(

I sense that there is, perhaps, some sort of "Trump Cult" because there is a certain segment of the population who believe he can do "no wrong." They exhibit the tendency to justify his every action, and perhaps turn those actions against those who are criticizing Trump. I don't believe this happens with the majority of people in this country---nor even the majority of Republicans. I would say it's a very small segment of our population, actually.

This was not so with Obama. There was much criticism of Obama, even amongst his supporters. Obama didn't tweet something after every criticism of him (and there was much criticism of him). He didn't resort to name-calling and schoolyard taunts.

I believe there was a very small segment of the population who idolized Obama---but I don't believe this idolization was felt by as many people as the idolization of Trump going on now.

Perhaps the level of support of Trump is in proportion to the level of criticism he receives.

My feelings towards him are neutral. But I often sound like I am defending him because some stuff said about him seems over exaggerated, made up, kooky.

Some of it is true though.

Oh yeah.

Maybe it's also I consider some reactions to it over the top.

I think the reactions are panic over what could potentially be a threat to our democracy...

This sort of thing has happened in countries before. The people get tired of politicians with empty promises so they support a brash and charismatic man who seems "honest", only to have it backfire on them when he changes the laws and establishes a dictatorship.

There are many Trump supporters who believe Trump has been ordained by God, which is more than scary enough, but when he calls himself "the Chosen One," implying that he's bought into the same delusion, then that's out-and-out terrifying.

I agree. Other cult leaders have claimed the same.

How so? I don't recall Obama supporters hanging on his every word, and rejecting everything from legitimate news sources, to scientists, to academia. In fact, as I recall, that was the right even back then.

That’s cause you put your left blinders on.

More likely, it's because none of that ever happened with Obama. Again, it was the right that attacked science on climate change and evolution, legitimate news sources such as those who rejected the racist BS about Obama being born in Africa, and academics regarding how slavery was the root of the Civil War.

Speaking of the American Civil War, for the record I just wanna say how sh***y it was that the only true reason the Union abolished slavery was not because they had sympathy for black people, it was really because they wanted to destroy the South's economy as punishment for essentially betraying this country.

Very few white people in those days actually gave a s**t about the rights of black people, or indigenous people, or Asians, or other white immigrants from countries like Ireland and Germany.

I'm sorry but I just don't buy into the white savior crap that the US government shoves down our throats about that war. Both sides treated black people and former slaves like s**t before, during, and long after the war.

Edit: Also it just bothers me because that war really destroyed the south and after being defeated we were basically reduced to being the scapegoats for all the problems of racism in this country.

I just don't get why so many southerners are deeply patriotic for a country that treated them like s**t?

Ok, rant over.

Google Obama the messiah. There were supporters that thought of him as a messianic figure. Barbara Walters: "We thought Obama was the next Messiah." Chicago Tribune: "From messiah to mediocrity. You really don't recall people thinking of Obama that way??
