All true, but it doesn't say how far from the Galactic Center (there is one) our solar system is. I read somewhere that we are about 2/3 of the way from the Center to the Rim.

Out Of The Silent Planet was C.S. Lewis ideas about possible extra terrestrial life. I have a feeling that the U.S. military would behave like Dr Weston and Devine in regard to them though.

well look at it this way-if there are aliens-they are obviously years ahead of us-to be able to get here, and obviously would have more answers then us

Slippery slope. Sentient autonomous robots are one way to kick start a technological singularity, which is agreed to be a good way to destroy a civilization (and quite possibly its composite elements as well, such as classical organic life).

I'm all for advances in scientific and technological research, but it is certain to end in cataclysmic disaster if not for the temperance of ethos, history, and ontology.

If not for skills yet mastered.

Could there be no way to learn them except at risk of annihilation; trial-by-fire? Possibly. Probably, I think. The risk is plainly unacceptable with concern to the survival of our species without prior, large-scale, stable, extra-solar colonization.

The angular momentum of the solar system is the sum of the angular momenta of each of its mass points about the center of mass. It is an extensive quantity, a vector associated with the system, not any particular point.

Assuming the Nebular Hypothesis, would the rotational momentum of the sun be greater than that of the planets'? Also, would it not include their momentum in their orbits and not merely their rotation about their axes?
