They were Jewish laws, though. I don't think every non Jew who reads the Bible has to follow them. I'm sure there are lots of theologians round here who can explain why some rules lasted as important while others didn't.

I remember reading on the net some info about the hypocrisy of people using the bible as an excuse aainst homosexuality, because there's other sins that apparently never get enforced. I haven't read the bible, but apparently there's things along the lines of "a woman who wears a garment with two kinds of stitching gets stoned to death" and there were a few others like this. As it points out, since when were those things enforced?

More evidence to suggest that these over religious zealots are using the bible as nothing more than an excuse to be against homosexuality.

While we are on the subject, there's a bit of Ecclesiastes that states "There is nothing new under the Sun" and yet we still let people patent and copyright stuff, when there it is in the Bible in black and white (at least the one I saw was) that it's not new. Should Christian countries be patent and Copyright free?

The New Testament tells people to follow all the laws of the Old Testament. Examples:

"For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:18-19)

"It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid." (Luke 16:17)

I hear Christians all the time say that all sins are equal in the eyes of God. So a Christian shouldn't condemn homosexuality or even homosexual acts unless they follow every single law in both the Old and New Testaments. If they do, I think they need to be reminded that "He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone."

Here on Earth, people have many conflicts were both parties have potential to be done wrong, and we do not have the wisdom that God has to to administer such an absolute system of justice as He would, so we have built a system of morality and justice that is largely based arund the Old Testament, to be administered by imperfect people for imperfect people, that often must choose actions that are the least of all evils.

Which Christians believe you should follow Jewish rules like Kosher? Cause I've not met any like that.

I haven't either. I am saying that they are hypocrites if they don't follow the laws of the Old Testament. When I said some Christians say all sins are equal in the eyes of God, they say things like lying and murdering are the same thing.

I think its unfair on people to make them do whatever the bible says, if you compare it to something simple like how women were unfairly treated and in some cases still are, then most people wold agree its unfair on them, so why is your sexuality any dfferent? Aren't you allowed to be cleansed of your sins anyway? so essentially if you are of that sexuality then could you not confess to it and be cleansed as others are for their sins? Im not sure, im not good at all this religious stuff, being the only one in my family not baptised and religious.

"we do not have the wisdom"??? i'm sorry but that's a bleedin cop out. big time. you ought to try to have the wisdom no matter how cynical you feel. you ought to try to treat people as damn equals. i don't care what the hell your damn beloved bible says about it. jesus bleedin christ.

And all those Fundamentalist Xtian Republicans getting our soldiers killed in Iraq just so Bush could get re-elected and the Reps could be in power. Clearly homosexuality is the greater of the two evils.

Humz... the word "BS" comes to mind.

Something tells me that people like Sean are unreachable. Their minds are so clouded by their religion that their skulls have become too thick, and they're hell-bent on pushing it on other people because they believe, in all their arrogant self-righteousness, that they know what's best for those of us who have minds of our own. I've only seen it a hundred times. I spent 2 years stuck in a Baptist school where arrogant fundies would bombard daily me with demands that I worship their malevolent, evil god lest I be tortured eternally in hell for my beliefs (not in those words, but you get the idea). One of them even had the audacity to bribe me!

Afterall, people who take such cruelty as that in the bible as the word and will of god can't possibly be wrong. (<-- sarcasm)

How is it different when homosexuals and their supporters call their detractors blasphemers and more or less say burn the heretic, how is it any different to when that used to be done by priests?

You have a creed, a belief system that you try to force on others, you villify and try to humiliate any unbelievers, you portray yourselves as righteous, knowing the only truth.

So how is it different?

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAgraehejatgejshrjhejrsdjsjkjstrsdkghdjdhdjjjxgjhxfg

I'm glad to see there aren't a swarm of fundies on this board, and the few I've seen so far have made damn fools out of themselves.

All that aside, Just because the "bible" says that homosexuality is "wrong" doesn't make it so. Frankly, I think the bible was written by (immature) human males to further their own agenda and control the masses.

You know, not long ago, my boyfriend had some fundie lady (who looked like a 10 year old boy, but thats not the point) come up to him and start spewing her religious nonsense. My boyfriend and I, being very questioning and scientific people, asked her how she knew that "god" existed. All she could say was that the bible was proof. Of course, that wasn't good enough for us. Then she said she has "faith". I interpret that as gullibility. After we grilled her for about a half hour, she said that she can't change our minds, only "god" could do that (Feh...).

If these people can't even scientifically prove that the "bible" is the word of "god" (or that this illusive "god" even exists), then what makes them think they're qualified to make judgements about others' lives, and what gives them the right to try to interfere? These people are too self-righteous and hypocritical for their own good.

personally, i have no problem with "lack of proof", if you like, as the mystical side of spirituality has always appealed to me. by "mystical", i'm talking about its real meaning - that of mystery - and NOT all the piffle many people ascribe the term to.

i also have no problem whatsoever with people wanting to share something which is so important to them. if one is passionate about something, of course one wants to spread the word, as it were, whether that's religion, or stamp collecting. but there's a difference here - being able to listen as well as talk, being more judicious than is usually the case when spouting, and being able to hear the word "no, thanks - not interested" would be bloody useful. fundies don't think for themselves (in other words, won't take responsibility for their thoughts/actions). and i'm not even bothered (on a personal level) about being castigated and threatened with hell if i continue to behave the way i do. "erm, that's YOUR hell, not mine - please feel free to keep it, thanks!" with a smile...

however, when it's used to hurt or damage other people, in the name of "righteousness", then it's wrong, and by "wrong" i tend to mean "unjust". (and i don't believe in "Good" or "Evil", either).
