Is being gay wrong?
I don't doubt your conclusion. It does undermine the proposition that adoption should be limited to nuclear families, though. These are the same families that would normally reproduce (as opposed to gay couples) and have absolutely no way of guaranteeing the health of their child. If they are unwilling to take an imperfect baby from an orphanage, then what kind of parents would they have been had they given birth to someone with a physical or mental abnormality? If they can only accept a perfect baby from the adoption agency then what happens when the baby turns out to be autistic? Do they throw it away and go get another perfect baby? Life is full of risks. Deciding to adopt a child should be no less risky than two fertile partners deciding to make one. If they are really suitable parents then they'll make the best of whatever comes their way.
In any case, my point was that we periodically hear about the shortage of babies and how some of these families wait on lists for a long time or go shopping for a baby outside the country. At the same time we hear about the kids that nobody wants. I don't think banning gay adoption accomplishes *anything* good.

It's in amazingly good shape for a pile of sulphur ash.
Sodom was not destroyed for being gay. All you have to do is read the story in context.
Don't you find it strange that Lot offered up his daughters to the 'gay' crowd? He had lived there for some time and most likely knew the crowd's intentions. And last I checked homosexuals don't go around in crowds demanding strangers come out and have sex with them. What is threatened here is rape. Also, there is no mention of lesbianism among the women of Sodom.
In Matthew 10:14-15 and Luke 10:7-16, Jesus implied that the sin of the people of Sodom was to be inhospitable to strangers. In Ezekeiel 16:48-50, God states clearly that he destroyed Sodom's sins because of their pride, their excess of food while the poor and needy suffered, and worshiped many idols; sexual activity is not even mentioned. Jude is the only one who disagreed, saying the sin was sexual in nature. Of course, various translations have led to many different sexual acts being mentioned in Jude.
And as for Leviticus, it only states that lying with another man as with a woman is bad. What if the men were standing up? Or if they didn't do it in bed? Plus, as with the Sodom story, it does not mention women.

You have convinced me on the adoption lottery idea. You have me half-convinced on the adoption idea but im not sure if it would be fair to the kid in the real world.
When I was in high school (20 years ago) I had to get a permission slip signed by my parents before I could enroll in either biology or geology because some fundamentalists had accused the school board of interfering in their freedom of religion and "subverting" their children by teaching them about things like Darwin or metamorphic rocks. And I wasn't even living in the "bible belt". There really are congregations that take Genesis as the literal word-for-word truth, and think it's a blasphemy to say it took more than 6 days to make the world, whether you think it was really thousands of years or billions of years.
Just two weeks ago (when discussing the religious litmus test for Supreme Court nominees), USA President George Bush told a bunch of reporters that he thought schools should be teaching students that the 'Intelligent Design" theory (ie: the world is complicated because God made it that way) is a scientific equivalent to Darwinism, and allow them to make up their own mind which theory is correct. Back when Bush was the Governor of Texas he was a proponent of teaching "creationism" in the Texas school system.
So what have "these people" got to do with me? I've never been to America.
I've seen that same argument used by people who don't like cross-racial and/or foreign adoptions. I still think it boils down to jealousy.
Ultimately it doesn't matter whether or not a nuclear family is better or not as even a single gay man makes a better parent than an orphanage. As long as there are tens of thousands of kids on the waiting list that white hetero couples refuse to adopt then I don't think the argument of which family provides a better environment has any relevance at all. In fact, I'd like to see the government assign adoptees using a lottery so that parents don't get to choose the cute, healthy 6-month-old baby and leave the fetal-alcohol-syndrome 5-year-old to rot in the government care facilities.
You can argue that it's descrimination but i think it is wrong to presume everyone who disagrees is jealous just because they dont agree with you. That makes it just look like your spitting the dummy out.
The lottery idea is very noble but i think that will just lead to less people adopting and more kids in the orphanage.
I have a solution:
Humans need to quit breeding. The planet is already terribly overpopulated as it is. Unfortunately, nobody thinks about this factor when choosing to breed. In fact, the planet would be a better place without any human existance at all.
Humans really should stop to think about the impact that their breeding has on society and the planet. One more mouth for the country to feed. One more kid to bully/be bullied in school, one more life to support, one more contributor to the planet's growing pollution problem, or all too often, one more kid in the orphanage that nobody wants because of circumstances out of it's control. And yet people continue to keep squirting them out as if it affects nothing or nobody. How selfish.
I was always for the idea of spaying/neutering humans, much like we do to other animals. You know, the bad parents, the rapists/molesters, the violent criminals... That right there would help.
If you didnt notice, in western societies like Britain the home grown population is declining leaving jobs unfilled. Thats why skilled and in many cases unskilled workers are coming, invited and brought over here to fill the gap. It is cheaper and easier than training the unemployed to fill those jobs, though its short term thinking because the unemployed are still needing skills before they can get a job and then wont be a "burden to the state".
I think maybe there should be some sort of speying system for those with a sexual crime on their resume and other types of hardened criminals plus human baby factories on welfare. Possibly a limit of two or three babies for those on welfare. Any more than that get handed to a willing adoptive family.

I agree with that as well. Lets criminalise having babies (and make abortion a more serious offence punishable by jail only) until all the orphan kids of the world are given a home. Of course if more woman were careful about their bodies and reponsibilities we wouldnt have this problem in the first place.
I realise it takes too to tango but woman want it both ways. They think they have the "right" to do what they want with their kid including murder but men are supposed to have the same responsibility but have to just go along with what the woman does with their flesh and blood. Men should have an equal say in things if they have equal resbonsibility to the kid.
Im not interested in anyone posting about women's "rights" groups either to me. They tend to argue that a woman has the right to kill men or children without seeing the evidence first.
The poll is impossible to answer for me because it is either wholly uncritically supportive of the entire lifestyle this entails, or it is wholly condemning and calling for punishment, or you are 'not allowed' to have a 'voice' on the subject.
It might be possible to persuade many younger people (and no, I am not being patronising here), to be 'accepting' or 'unchallenging' of the New Orthodoxy around homosexuality, though that is not guaranteed to work either. On the other hand, people of my age and perhaps older will have grown up in an environment in which it was roundly condemned by all people. Is there any reason why older people should necessarily find it easy to change their minds on such a topic, given the intense loathing of it in the cultures in which we grew up. Of course, nobody would attack homosexuals; nor would anyone want to give verbal abuse or give them problems in any other way. It would be impossible to make it illegal again without turning otherwise innocent people into criminals and it would also consume too many law enforcement resources to try to police the problem.
It is worth remember that it was in the 1970s that the American Psychiatric Association took homosexuality off the DSM, so that it was no longer considered a pathology in clinical terms, but back then, it was still considered largely unacceptable socially.
Even though I am a Christian, when the topic of homosexuality comes up, I show no emotion twoards it. I really have no opinion of it. If I were to say it was wrong, I would be saying it only because the Bible says so, not because I personally think it's wrong. Some Christians may be upset by this, but I don't exactly get why homosexuality is wrong. I'm sorry God if you are reading this and you are upset, but I truly do not have an overwhelming urge to condem gays.

It's in amazingly good shape for a pile of sulphur ash.
Reminds me of the Badlands in South Dakota. That said, I don't believe they're "ruins". I think the "ruins of sodom" are nothing more than peaks and bluffs carved out by erosion.

As for your first paragraph, many women are careful about their bodies. ACCIDENTS STILL HAPPEN!
As per your second, I can't speak for others, but I would consult my partner first. However, the crotch-dropping is residing in MY body, leeching off MY resources. I'd be damned if anyone is going to order me not to have an abortion, be they my partner or the government. They're not the ones that have to carry the thing for 9 months with the possibility of serious complications (I have PCOS, which makes complications likely, and risks my life and health). But thankfully, I have a boyfriend who would support me having an abortion. We couldn't take care of it anyway, and I'll not spew yet another unwanted child into the system. I'm not a brood mare for infertile couples.
As per your third, how did murder of men get in there? I certainly don't agree with that, unless its self defense. However, if the bugger cheats on you... I do condone something that's considered more than "not nice"... Like a good swift kick in the pants...

crotch-dropping
i asked my bf what he thought about abortion too and he supports it.
and eamonn, men don't have as much say in it because they're not the ones who have to carry the kid and give birth to it (which hurts like HELL if you somehow happened to be unaware of this
) so that's the trade off. women do the work so women get to decide. it's OUR body and OUR pain, guys get to shoot a load and that's that, women have to go through all sorts of crap a lot of men couldn't handle, but they still think they can tell women to go through that s**t. uh, no. that's not how it works. you wanna baby? you give birth to it yourself.
