But let's stay on topic. This is the Jezebel thread after all.

Hey! No fair getting in an off-topic dig against our President, and then telling us to get back on topic!

At least direct your bile against woman politicians!

I love Michelle Bachmann. A woman can be strong, dynamic, move far up the ranks, and still remain Christian and humble. It's not easy, but she and Palin (among others) prove it's possible.

She also makes a fool of herself every time she opens her mouth and gets virtually every reference to anything historical wrong! Hurray!!

Michelle was and is a blithering idiot and an insufferable Jesus Freak on top of that. Ms. Palin is simply ill informed and ill educated. I am sure she is a bright woman. She had more qualifications for being President than Saul Alinsky's love child, Barak Obama who had no executive experience whatsoever (and it sure shows, doesn't it?).

She is "bright" in the same way a mirror reflects light. In this case the light is knowledge and she is the mirror

You seem to be confusing ignorance with humility.

I said Michelle Bachmann, not Michelle Obama.

Was it Michelle Obama who makes speeches about the "Founding Fathers" that are factually incorrect? Or cites "the woman I met on the street just now" as evidence for the MMR vaccine's "danger"? I could go on

Stop the politician discussion in this particular thread. Start another thread, or post in a thread about politicians.

I'm not losing anything. I'm saying hyperlexian will put an end to it, so why wait until then? If we keep fighting back and forth about this or that politician in a Republican-versus-Democrat fashion, we're off-topic and will be stopped. Do you enjoy being stopped?

It does not matter what political party you support, Bachmann and Palin are missing something behind their eyes

hyperlexian won't need to intervene because there is nothing going on to violate the TOS, you are just trying to worm your way out of a losing debate. Fine by me

I will say this for feminism: it generates a lot of arguments.

But about "Christian feminists", show me a woman who humbly says, "Feminism is great, but God comes first in my life", and I will believe she is a Christian feminist. Christianity is about humility -- not exactly something feminists are known for!

When did this thread become about Christian feminists? It's about feminists in general is it not? Are you maligning feminists in general for not being Christian when Christianity as a tradition may be foreign to them, let alone something they would agree is the embodiment of morality?

"Christianity is about humility -- not exactly something feminists are known for!" When someone has to do actual work to achieve the goal of equality rather than simply sitting on a pile of inherited privilege, yes, their desire for power (equal power mind you) is necessarily more explicit and noticeable as it comes into conflict with the established social order's excess of power located with the privileged groups. Doing work to achieve equality has no connection to a lack of humility however. And declining to demand a fair and equal share of respect and power is a self-negating trait, not a humble one. I don't think it's very humble to hold tightly to an excess of privilege and begrudge underprivileged groups from taking their fair share (that is, an equal one) of power.

Quote:
Consider feminism in the light of the biblical "fruit of the Spirit", which phrase refers to the correct Christian attitude: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance."

All right. Would you like to list some male politicians who happen to be Christian and display "the fruit of the Spirit" as admirably as these women you list?

And what exactly is it about these Christian women politicians that make you say they are Christians first and feminists second? Or that they're feminists at all? That they do not point out the inequality that exists in society? That they do not "create a stir" and "make things inconvenient" for privileged groups with inherited excesses of power? Are you sure you are not confusing "feminists" with "women"? Michele Bachmann does not like the label feminist for herself, for example.

What are your opinions on the men in the public sphere who call themselves Christian (this would be pretty much everyone running for President, since not being Christian is still seen as suspect by large portions of voters?) I would enjoy hearing examples of their love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance.

That's when they have the most impact and get noticed the most. Maybe I just have really sh***y feet, or maybe I walk too much, but I find the pain excruciating.
