My interpretation of what he meant with that quote was he'd appear more mainstream so he could accomplish his radical agenda. I'm not too worried about Van Jones leading a bloody revolution to overthrow the government now or ever.

I think you can find the numerous videos and quotes Van Jones where he talks about race.(pretty much every video he's in) Being a black nationalist speaks for itself I think.

The problem with that parody (not to overthink this :P ) is that criminal records are public record and you can't withhold it from anyone.

1) A slew of short, potentially out of context, quotes don't verify anything. I want specifics.

2) Still doesn't verify that Glenn Beck didn't commit that crime until we see a proved true alibi.

What do you think about him describing himself as a black nationalist? I think that's a racist philosophy. White nationalism definitely is. That's not something you can just renounce. Combine that with the quotes(these are just off the top of my head but I'm sure you can find even more) about how white pollutants and environmentalists "were steering poison into communities or color", only white people commit school shootings, the organization he founded saying Bush ordered the national guard to go down to New Orleans and shoot people, etc. I don't believe his excuse that he didn't know what he was signing on to or was put on with permission on that "9/11 truther" website. I think it's consistent with his beliefs.

Van Jones really isn't even the worst one in my opinion. He just had a bunch youtube videos and quotes out there in plain view. Cass Sunstein and John Holdren in particular are just goofy.

Can you give some evidence that he said he was a black nationalist? And are you sure he meant it as the kind of nationalism like that of the Nazis and the Zionists?

"Jones came from rural Tennessee, by way of Yale Law School. The self-described former "rowdy black nationalist" is best known as founder of the Ella Baker Center, an Oakland-based nonprofit group with roots firmly grounded in criminal-justice issues that affect low-income people of color."

He also wore a "Kanye was right." to tshirt to that event.

http://www.eastbayexpress.com/gyrobase/ ... lText=true

It's been sourced to that but I believe the actual quote where he said that was also the same one where he said he was communist. Something along the lines of already being a rowdy black nationalist before the Rodney King verdict but after it he became a revolutionary communist.

I think all racial nationalism is racist.

Republican Town Hall Vandalism

I love your sense of outrage. It was all "mean stuff" from the left during Bush's years, what with the legal protests and non-gun carrying leftists, but Tea-Baggers and obstruction from elected Republicans is just like the Bush years.

The Democrats repeatedly obstructed Bush's major efforts like aggression against Iraq ... actually, no they didn't!

Democratic activists were allowed near Bush rallies with guns ... actually, they weren't!

Like Bush spied on Americans so too is Obama ... no, he isn't!

The last points particularly interesting, given the fact that most terrorists during Obama's Administration have been domestic terrorists.

Newsflash: THERE IS NO LEGITIMATE CRITICISM comming from Republicans on Obama's measures. Seeing as to how you're a climate change denialist I'm sure your standards of "legitimate" are rather distinct from mine, though.

Wow....to think I almost missed all this blathering. Kind of wish I had.

Wasn't the question one of 'Obama = Hitler' that I was referencing?

Since the allusion to my one-sided right-eous outrage has been resolved I'll still say something to this regardless; the left and the right have different visions for America. The left would like to see our system move more economically toward that of Western Europe in general (please don't thow the "Huh, did we nationalize everything yet?" - there is such a thing as progression or should we say progressivism...to deny what they want is subterfuge, really doesn't make sense). The right wants yes, enough checks on business to prevent scandals before they start, good transparency in the business world - but where the rules are fair they would like it left to be as it is, maybe with a slight favor to small businesses to keep them up and coming and keep larger companies on their toes and getting too much of a grip to become monopolies. They believe that congress should be limited to the framework that they're given in the constitution, as should the exec, as should judicial. The argument about healthcare is one of looking at Medicare/Medicade and seeing how well that's working - its going bankrupt. The legitimate questions from the left are; can you have that private industry keep from actualizing coverage discrimination - much like the right protests that private industry *can't compete* with a competitor who doesn't have to turn a profit - therefore private option dries up pretty fast.

I suppose I can be fair and call it equal. During the Bush years you just had major campuses banning recruiters, conservative speakers getting jeered off any campus stage, college presidents being very selective in who they'd allow to come and talk. Code Pink was also hazing recruiters, in San Francisco plans were made by a group of young liberals to disrupt the troops supply lines. You also had John Kerry who ran on the promise that he'd pull out immediately at a time where Iraq would have, rather than being a slow and awkward recovery process tarred by initial directional incompetence - would have become a false second Vietnam. Obama's diliniation from Bush in that regard, thankfully to some, has been more slight of hand - ie. focus more on Afghanistan so he could do what had to be done and at the same time distinguish himself more from Bush or McCain (which to his credit - that's fine but, its all visual in that sense which needs to be clarified); the real tragedy would have been Kerry winning, Obama - it seems like the larger concerns are just with social policies.

What I'd love to know is who the people were who were supposed to be keeping a guy out, even if it was a replica or an unloaded - not good at any political event. It was a great media fair as well.

I think most people who really believe that there was something horrifically sinister to this or that the CIA hasn't been tapping us for decades already probably has some confusion about their own importance.

Quite true. Many of them either faces from Obama's past or friends of his czars. I don't think Obama really wants to talk about Islamic terrorists much anyway - it doesn't help what's left of his 'I'M NOT BUSH!' card.

Your right - its what Jeanine Garafalow pointed out; everyone on the right completely agrees with his desire to nationalize health care - only problem is he's black.

Global climate change is a topic that I'll admit, I need to be more open minded on. Overall though it involves a couple necessary ingredients 1) that its happening, 2) that we're the dominant cause of it. The trouble is, I want someone to present it who's not going to be shrill. I would like to understand how the rises and falls in temperature that we've seen recently or the regrowth of ice in the Arctic is indicative of fluctuations which will, inevitably and because of man made CO2, will disrupt the cold water conveyor belt under the Atlantic and Pacific oceans causing the core of the global ocean current to stop and re-instituting a brand new ice age. The reason I've tended to line myself against it - its partly counter-intuitive to common sense on a lot of levels such as this but also, its the same people screaming on about it who want to ban outdoor smoking in major cities while making them safe havens for illegals (extremely helpful especially less to the honest and hard workers among them - very easy for the criminals), people who want to bring the ACLU out on almost any display of Judao-Christian religion on public property but say that having the class read the Koran at the exclusion of all else is a good display of tolerance - ie. when people have this bad of a logical track record they could tell me the sky is blue and its hard for me not to be skeptical.

Global climate change is indeed real and strongly influenced by humans. I have a degree in atmospheric science and spent much of my senior year researching climate change. It is almost impossible to calculate the exact expected effects because of enormously vast array of feedback systems. The increase in global mean temp is sudden and very significant. As the ice continues to melt, particularly noted around Antarctica, the insolation (heat from the sun) gets absorbed by the relatively dark water (as compared to the lighter colored ice) rather than reflected. This causes the positive feedback system to be kicked into gear. This is only one variable out of many. We must also consider cloud cover, rainfall, the ozone layer, changes in wind patterns, el ninos/la ninas, snowcaps, etc. etc. All of the data regarding CO2 and atmoshepric conditions coincide almost perfectly. Climatologists and Meteorologists have been bringing all this to the white house for at least 20 years now. Nobody wants to listen to a bunch of weather geeks until the effects can be seen by the naked eye. I find it very interesting that insurance companies were amongst the first to take us seriously as they started raising their rates dramatically for all dwellings on or near the coast.

Sorry for being way off topic!

It was more a general exclamation of how “awful” it is to try to discredit the poor ol’ Party of No because of a few (or many) extremists.

Alright… most people carrying firearms didn’t call him Hitler so much as carry firearms to intimidate the President. You got me there.

Agreed.

I’ll agree that that’s what the left wants (it’s a minimum requirement to be considered left). Others may want something more radical – a syndicalist devolution and restructuring of the economy. But, yeah, that’s what the centre-left wants. Too bad an overwhelming majority of the Democratic Party is not leftwing.

If that’s what the Right wants then no major political party is Rightwing. The Republican Party (which, by your definition, is not Rightwing) is a party of corporate welfare, favouritism to large corporations, and excessive deregulation.

They believe that congress should be limited to the framework that they're given in the constitution, as should the exec, as should judicial.

Which explains the warrantless wiretapping, torture, and indefinite dentition under the “not rightwing” Bush administration.

And which has proved optimal for covering and attending to the needs of massive amounts of people in every other industrialized nation.

Great, so you’re going to provide a caseload of examples of mainstream Party insiders being obstructionist and outright nasty. This’ll be fun!

Oh, like the awful booing pro-War Hedges received?

Give me the number of Code Pink women who came with guns, real or fake. Give me the number of Code Pink gun-wielding women whose liberal Pastors told them Bush needed to be salted to death.

Yes – thank God Iraq’s remained stable. Only a few 100,000 more US troops and she’ll be a utopia! Doesn’t matter how many angry countrymen and women we piss off or how much raw resources we allow taken out of the country – so long as victory occurs in the end!

I love ultraconservative militarism.

See above. Obama’s militarism and Pakistani sabre rattling is a tragedy.

The security personnel were just obeying state law.

Still breaks the law – even if politicians have selectively (and illicitly) done it in the past. It’s especially unnerving when it comes from a “Freedom loving” “moral high ground” Republican.

Are there no cheap, ridiculously overused Republican talking points you don’t use?

You’re right. He’s just escalating the unwinnable War in Afghanistan and extending it into Pakistan. Thanks for noting a rhetorical distinction – it’s so valuable.

I’m going to ignore this irrelevancy.

Wow. I congratulate you on such ridiculous, run of the mile, overused, and obviously propagandistic reference to the traditional bogeymen of conservative ideologues.

Honestly, I've never seen someone internalize vacuous talking points to the point you have. Kudos.

I'd just offer in return that you know the liberal anatomy map of what a conservative is so well that there's no room for reality.

...not as awful a decision as the one giving Israel to the Jews.

You're kidding, right? This is a smear campaign that rivals the worst the Republicans can muster.

1. It is not Glen Beck's responsibility to prove his innocence.
2. Criminal records are easy to get.
3. The idea that many people believe he did it has absolutely no bearing on anything.
4. Your disclaimer "Listen, I’m not saying I believe them" is ridiculous. If you don't believe them, then you never should have brought it up in the first place. If you do believe it, then have the guts to say so.

I hate Glen Beck, but your attack on him is way over the line. If he did it, prove it. If he didn't, then shut up!
