I would like to think that the American Muslim community is not a potential fifth column but I have my doubts.

It's a good thing there was no Million Muslim March or other mass congregation of muslims after 9/11. That would have been a catastrophe and there would probably have been casualties. It wouldn't really matter what their signs said. They could have amassed to all wave American flags and it still would have been a catastrophe. The mere fact that Muslims assembled en masse would be enough to sound the alarm for some people and they would have gathered their own "troops" to counterattack this group of Muslims. Things would have gotten very violent very fast. Keeping a low profile was safer. The muslims I know personally took to wearing American flag lapel pins as an "I'm harmless" badge. Even so, several people who either actually were muslim or looked muslim-ish were killed for the sin of being "one of them" after 9/11. That was horrible. I think there would have been many more murders of that sort if Muslims had actually congregated in a single spot to have a rally even if it was an American flag waving rally.
I completely agree. Just look at the response to Muslims wanting to build a community center near ground zero. The amount of hate out there against Muslims remains strong in the US.
