You obviously are not familiar with the concept of the geas - familiar to all of us into mythology and folklore [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geis]. The geas - prohibition / injunction built into the plot - is a setup. As soon as you see it, you KNOW it is going to get violated.

Does it not make sense that this concept is so widespread in our mythology / folklore BECAUSE it is an essential element in the divine plan.

Anybody with even the most primitive understanding of how authority manipulates social belief for control would easily grasp that this proposed mythological violation of God's will at the initial creation of humanity was a prime tool to condemn all of humanity into guilt that could only be expiated at the intervention of the church. It is a naive curse on all humanity that the church liberally utilizes to get all sorts of idiotic conformity and wealth from adherents. And male dominance naturally blames it on a woman.

Of course, you would then have to follow up by proving black is white, and get yourself killed in the next pedestrian crossing...

The scarab was sacred to the Egyptians.

Thing about the symbolism of new life from a ball of dung.

Death and renewal- the same idea as the Resurrection.

Apparently the Egyptians anticipated both christianity and darwin ( who first observed "God's inordinate fondness for beetles") in the same metaphor in 3000 BC.

Beetles are quite impressive. At least as beautiful as the lepidoptera, just about as aerodynamically challenging, MUCH better than the hemiptera and diptera.

Of course the Socializers prefer the social insects, but they are not y me quite as intriguing.

Thats an invalid answer/strawman, because this thread isn't about whether God exists or not. God is assumed to exist for the sake of this hypothetical scenario, otherwise no discussion could take place. That's all it is. Perhaps I should clarify:

IF God existed, and IF he invited you out to dinner, and IF he offered to answer any questions you had, what would you ask?

to me it still is not really valid... since i don't grasp the concept of a "god" thing... no such entity is known to exist.

i understand the description of such a entity, and understand also that it is something that otherwise doesn't exist.......

to me it is like you would like to know what i would ask my dog IF he could understand what i asked and IF he was able to speak and IF he would answer my questions...

it's a kind of a silly exercise i think.

but ok... here i go:

"what did you do to those people?" pointing at all religious people....

It's amazing how much communication is possible without a common language - given how little is possible WITH a common language.

We communicate fairly successfully with our dog in many areas. He is not much on abstract topics, though.

The one thing I wish he could communicate is WHAT he thinks he is barking at at 4 in the morning.

I have been sitting at my computer for at least 30 minutes, and I am so dumbfounded by that argument I do not even know what to say. I am just going to stand by Sand's argument about shame and such..

While I find Philologos hard to follow fairly often, this is a perfectly clear argument, I don't agree with it's conclusion but it is a perfectly reasonable logical progression. If you failed to grasp it perhaps it is because you lack the requisite store of knowledge or intellectual flexability for such grown up thoughts, now run along I'm sure there is a gathering of the firearm fetishists soggy biscuit circle that you are running late for, and surely you don't want to be late?

You keep giving me good stuff for my sig. I think I should tell you what threads I am posting on so you could attack me more. I think I can have an entire sig devoted to the nonsense you say about me.

No, seriously, I do not need to say anything about this because the people who know me think you are a laughingstock, especially with the free speech comment you made a while ago. I am laughing all this off because I cannot reason with you since you hate Americans too much.

Why does this entirely fail to bother me? probably because I have absolutely no respect for you or anyone who would consider your mindset even remotely relevant.

Anti-American? yeah keep on banmging that tired drum if it makes it easier to face yourself each day... muppet...

Your gun club buddies did nothing to refute my assertion that americans kill americans with guns in fact all they did was find statistics to support it!

Anything here for your 'sig' you egocentric little moron?

Again, like on the other thread, anything else before I ignore you on this thread?

And that of course [not that I would not want to find out what ProtoAustronesian REALLY sounded like] is THE question.
