It's amazing how disastrously the Grand Old Party's nomination process has gone thus far. Honestly, isn't a highly centralized and efficient propaganda network (Frank Luntz, Faux News, Talk Radio) and a lot of corporate money worth anything when it comes to getting the rank and file in line?

The GOP has been hijacked by a bunch of Tea Party NutJobs...

Considering the way things have gone in the House, I could see the party splitting over a Paul nomination...

Hey, maybe I won't vote for Newt in the primary...

The true Tea Party folks aren't the nutjobs. The neocon Religious panderers are the nutjobs.

I thought more and more, they've proven themselves to be one in the same.

^^^

That's two distinct and different types of nut.

The evil wing of the party (Bluebloods like Cheney, Romney, GHW Bush) could manipulate the religious nuts by keeping them distracted with abortion issues, gay marriage etc, but they can't cope with tea party nuts...

They're like mongoloid two-year-olds on crack--hell bent on breaking everything at once.

Unfortunately it appears that is true for a lot of them but there is definitely real movement within the GOP as can be seen by how well Paul polls.

Latest PPP poll of Iowa: Ron Paul 24%, Romney 20%, Gingrich 13%, Bachmann 11%, Santorum 10%, Rick Perry 10%, Jon Huntsman Jr 4%, Buddy Roemer 2%

Paul has actually gain a point despite full on assault the MSM has been waging against him. Gingrich lost another point as well. Besides that everything is the same.

The smears, they do nothing!

January 3rd marks the end of the relevancy of Old Media.

I think maybe after we take over the GOP, the neocons can go back from whence they came and start up some unholy marriage with corporatists in Democratic Party. Call it something like... Americans Elect... 8O

Ron Paul won't fizzle out, they'll just put polonium in his food and that'll be that.

The other Repugnicans seem to have started taking him seriously

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/28/us/po ... &emc=tha24

Quote:
...Newt Gingrich said Mr. Paul, of Texas, was a “protest” candidate, and that he could not vote for the congressman if he won the party’s nomination. In a television interview, Mr. Gingrich, the former House speaker, declared that Mr. Paul’s “views are totally outside the mainstream of virtually every decent American.”

Rick Santorum warned conservative voters to carefully study Mr. Paul’s record, telling a crowd here: “Think about having a guy running for president who is going to be on the left of Barack Obama on national security.” ...

“The things that most Iowans like about Ron Paul — his economic ideas — are the things he’s least likely to be able to accomplish,” Mr. Santorum said, adding, “He’s been in Congress for 20 years and hasn’t passed a bill.”

But he warned that there would be no check and balance on Mr. Paul’s role as commander in chief. He raised his voice and urged Republicans to carefully study Mr. Paul’s isolationist foreign policy views.

“One thing he can do as commander in chief is he can pull all our troops home,” Mr. Santorum said. “He can shut down our bases in Germany. He can shut down the bases in Japan. He can pull our fleets back. You think the rest of the world is going to say, ‘Oh, that’s great?’ ”

Ron Paul will always have his base, which alone is not strong enough to secure the nomination, or even close enough.

As a pundit, whose name I am blanking, said "Paul has a high floor, but a low ceiling".

Paul's reputation has been left in tact, because his poll numbers were initially low and his opponents did give any attention to him. But now the spotlight is on him, he will have to face up to negative ads against him.

And he will have a hard time convincing the public WHY:

- He wants to cut medicaid, student loans, housing for the poor
- Make the billionaires pay 0% in taxes
- Allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons
- Legalize cocaine and heroin

Ron still pulling away

According to this poll, it looks like he's still gaining strength despite the ads.

You make it sound like he wants seniors to die, students to be uneducated, and to kick the poor on to the street, while letting Iran blow up anything it wants because "it's there right" and to keep the public apathetic about it because they are all high on crank.

I think you haven't given Paul an honest look. Sounds like some MSM talking points.

Negative ads don't always work overnight and the Iowa Caucus does not equal the general voting public. Through enough s*it and it will stick.

So you're saying that stating Paul's position "makes it sound like..." that? That, then, is the problem Ron Paul will have.

I just think there's too much salient stuff that the republican party can't and won't agree with Paul on. Foreign policy (uproot and bring it all home), hard drug legalization, etc.. I think Paul is really just emblematic of other ideas cropping up right of center and that the right libertarians want to be heard more. Additionally it gives the other contenders someone to actively reflect their ideas against rather than having the room feel like a near echo chamber.

I'm still pretty certain that it'll be Romney. He seems to be right out in the middle of the field and could likely pick up a lot of independent voters himself simply by not being less of a wingnut than ...say.... Santorum or Bachmann. True, some conservatives have concerns about his views on global warming or his involvement with Romneycare but, compared to another four years of Obama I think most of them could set aside the need for ideological perfection.

As for Paul somehow making the nomination - that would be odd. The bigger problem you'd have as well; when he got in, do you think he'd have any chance of actually implementing what he says that he wants to? I remember Obama talked constantly about closing Guantanamo, ending the Iraq war, and things went almost exactly the same on foreign policy as if GWB was still in office. I have the feeling that Ron Paul would find out exactly why Obama had no luck - rather quickly, and so many of his bold statements and declarations of what he planned to do with the US economy, drug law, or foreign policy would go up in smoke. What would really be left of the man they elected in terms of presidential action's correlation to campaign promises? Probably nothing noteworthy.

I think this is partially why Paul supporters are so vocal. If they want their candidate to be elected, they have to be when the MSM ignores him, misinterprets him, blows up the fears about him. Ultimately, I think it will work in his favor, because there is simply not a lot to the claims.

Cain was accused of infidelity, but there were people that came out that were a personal witness it. Where are the people coming out that claim to be a victim of Paul's racism? Are they hiding and waiting?
