I'm sure a lot of cops are just trying to do the right thing. I don't think any of them succeed. They have to enforce all the stupid, pointless, and moralistic laws and they have quotas to fill, meaning they sometimes have to choose between getting fired or randomly handing out tickets. Any cop who puts justice above their paycheck won't be a cop for long. The way I see it, everyone with a badge is a sworn enemy of justice, regardless of their intentions. Police brutality and severe corruption are just the icing on the cake.

It would be better not to tell them anything. People have been charged with (and convicted of) espionage over this, and many states have passed laws specifically classifying recording officers as espionage. And of course, they could always just beat you up, take the hat, and charge you with resisting arrest and whatever else they like. The courts would never take your word over theirs.
