On the notion of introducing a civics test, I'd like to make it clear that I was primarily arguing on Jacoby's terms with the intention of pointing out the contradiction of supporting a meritocratic test and an arbitrary cut-off point simultaneously. Any support I did lend the concept was exclusively within the context of it being a possible, albeit flawed means of extending political franchise to those younger than the age of majority without risking parentally exploitative situations.

The introduction of such a test as a universal criteria for voting eligibility is not a measure I support, primarily because an understanding of civics isn't necessarily a prerequisite to making a well-reasoned moral evaluation.
