Regardless, whatever his intentions, he directly encouraged her assassination with his comment.

Did he? Kindly quote the part where he encouraged assassination, I'm curious.

It's irrelevant. What's at issue are Trump's words and his intention to incite violence.

Once again, I'm forced to call your reading comprehension into question, as even if you changed his remarks to "well, she's going to repeal the 2nd amendment and you can't do anything about it; well, I guess you could always shoot her", a far more explicit statement, is clearly an observation and not a suggestion. As to intent, unless you're a mind reader, a common delusion around here I must say, I think you're SOL there as well.

Inciting violence is a crime. If I went on Youtube right now, and said something really rash like "let's show Donald Trump the power of the second amendment", you can bet I'd be getting a visit from the FBI.

I highly doubt it. You really should read the actual US statutes governing these things before attempting to argue your interpretation, otherwise you risk embarrassment. The actual case law involved a man making a comment about shooting LBJ, so it's pretty firmly established that even sitting presidents are fair game for far stronger remarks than Trump's.

From a recent issue of The New Yorker, one of the biggest national magazines in the US:

Yes, there is. Trump speaks off the cuff in a very stream of conscience sort of way, and if you watch the video, the offending statement seems to be something that just occurs to him and comes out of his mouth without much thought, and saying something stupid in a thoughtless manner requires neither malice nor stupidity.

Oh, sure, so Wahhabi preachers who happen to be in a trance advocating murder are totally fine as long as they don't think much about what they say. Dox, do you ever re-read the logic of what you write?

I'm more interested in the discussion than any perceived argument. Winning seems to be your motivation, not mine.

I understood what he meant, "that gun people can vote to keep her out" but the way he said it was horrible. A presidential candidate should be able to express themselves clearly. Did he "know" that what he was saying could be taken as that? I do not know.

Your posting history belies this claim. Notice that you did nothing to rebut anything I said in this posts, an excellent example.

I'll "get over myself" when you learn to read and argue competently; deal?

Honestly, I'd be more concerned if you did follow my reasoning, given your own abilities.

Saying something stupid out of thoughlessness can easily indicate malice and/or stupidity. It is because he is unable to filter his thoughts that we get these disturbing insights into his character.

And if the best defense you can come up with is that he doesn't know what he's talking about, it doesn't speak well of Trump.

Did you read the post I was replying to? If you did, you would know (or maybe you wouldn't, seeing as this is a consistent issue with you) that I was rebutting a specific point about possible explanations for Trump's comment, as that poster was claiming that there were no other explanations at all, which I disagree with.

As to my defense of Trump, you of all people should know that it entirely consists of "he didn't say what you're claiming he did", as you and the rest of the liberal crowd somehow seem to conflate observing the possibility of an event and encouraging it to happen. Funny how y'all's language skills are selective like that.

What you were responding to does not determine how others respond to you.
I think I'm going to start calling you the Artful Dodger because you never address any points but rather spend your time trying to convince everyone how smart you are.

So, in your mind, what I've actually said and in what context matters less than what you think I said? That explains so much about some of the things you say...

You know that lying about someone on a forum where every utterance is preserved for posterity isn't very productive, right? As in, that's provably false, and will inevitably backfire on you when I post the links to contradict it when you try.

For all posterity you're simply an ad hominem kind of guy. Which isn't a surprise considering you think your avatar is the place to flaunt lethal weapons.

It's perfectly clear, you literally just said that "What you were responding to does not determine how others respond to you", meaning that you don't care about context or actual meaning, only what you think was said. You characterized a statement of mine as something it wasn't, and then defended yourself by saying it didn't matter that you took me out of context and distorted my clearly intended meaning, which you have a habit of doing.

Yes, you'll be branded a liar and your statements given even less weight than they are now. Honestly, it would make things easier for me, as I could just link to your history of dishonestly rather than having to engage with you in the future.
